Job Summary: You will serve as a TOOL ROOM MECHANIC in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT, MECHANICAL SHOP 931 of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Major Duties:

  • You will maintain, adjust, sharpen, assemble, serialize, and order tools, parts and mechanical equipment kept in the shop tool rooms, equipment and clothing complexes for use by all trades and codes.
  • You will issue tools, equipment and clothing to Shipyard employees, receive, examine and maintain systematic control of tools and equipment upon return.
  • You will service and maintain general shop utility items such as pumps, hydraulic jacks, welding/cutting equipment, gas and electric, regulators, pressure gauges in shop and on boats.
  • You will examine (prior to issue and upon return) tools, cutters, portable power equipment such as pneumatic drills, grinders hammers, scalers, saw, impact wrenches, etchers, jack hammers, hammer drills, portable pumps and Sprague pulse - feeders.

Disassembling, inspecting, repairing, maintaining, and assembling various equipment. Using air motor analyzers, tachometers, lathes, and other hands and automatic tools. Repairing safety equipment, manufacturing welding lines, and sharpening knives, chisels, punches, cutters and drills. Reading and comprehending regulations, procedures, fabricating pipe plugs and assembling and prepping cutting machines. Utilizing computer systems and programs to log and maintain inventory of tools and PPE.
