The Connection Systems North America (CS NA) team has an exciting technical opportunity for a Tool Room Manager. Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the successful candidate will experience a rewarding assignment managing the tool shop in Aptiv Plant 11 supporting North America automotive terminal manufacture. The Toolroom Manager will support daily stamping operations for 100 progressive stamping tools and the tool and die tradesmen that maintain them.
In your daily job you will:
Schedule and prioritize all shift toolroom activities.
Assign and supervise Tool and Diemakers and apprentices assigned to the shift.
Promote safe work conditions and practices.
Track Tool and Diemaker performance.
Eliminate delays and gaps through mentoring, training, and work standardization for all toolroom operations.
Manage attendance and Control absenteeism.
Track tool preventive maintenance and support goal of 100% compliance to PM cycle-based PM's. Maintain toolroom equipment (order supplies, schedule calibrations, toolroom machinery PM's).
Improve operations and reduce risk through the identification of improvement ideas and solutions (ex: error proofing quality, improving uptime, cycle speed, reduction in waste).
Work closely with Flow 4 and 5 Tool Engineering to keep current on new tool technology.
Support new tools and new programs; schedule and run samples as needed.
Monitor stocking levels of spare tooling, react to die part shortages.
Focus on reducing tool maintenance costs without sub-optimizing quality or uptime. Respond to die-down issues.
Continuously improve changeover times and changeover scrap.
Improve toolroom capabilities, monitor and reduce MTTR (mean time to repair dies) and increase OEE (Operational Equipment Effectiveness).
Follow all Aptiv Corporate, CS, and local safety and operational procedures
Ensure compliance with customer specific requirements
Key skills and competencies for succeeding in this role are:
Associate or BSME in Mechanical Engineering or Journeyman Tool & Diemaker
Communication of complex technical ideas and project status in English, both verbally and in writing.
Experience in debug and troubleshooting progressive metal stamping and forming tools .
5+ years of Supervisory and tool maintenance experience with a very strong mechanical aptitude.
Experience in training and development of Tool and Diemakers and apprentices
Personable and comfortable working directly with maintenance trades in a union shop
Proficient in Microsoft Office, TEAMS and reviewing tool drawings in Auto CAD 2008, or Siemens NX.
Capable of reading terminal product prints, basic understanding of GD&T tolerancing, measuring parts, and performing experiments and studies
Flexibility to work off shifts, additional hours, weekends, and Holidays as needed. Travel required on a very limited and infrequent basis. International travel possible.
Experience at forming copper and brass terminals or similar components in progressive stamping dies
Resourcefully adaptive to rapidly changing environment
Strong presence, poise and persuasiveness to establish a high level of credibility quickly
Experience with operating metal stamping and forming presses
Experience with close tolerance tools and measuring devices
Machine or die shop experience. Mechanic, craftsman requiring mechanical and design skills.
