TLC Program Coordinator

The Learning Community (TLC) offers a cohort-based student experience that is informed by Black and African American history and cultural traditions. Committed to the success of all LMU students, the goals of the TLC program are to cultivate leaders, instill community consciousness, and promote academic and co-curricular success at LMU.

Under the supervision of Director-level or other senior-level leadership within Student Success & Belonging, the TLC Program Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing cohort-based programming that supports the engagement, retention, and success of TLC students. This role provides leadership in promoting a sense of belonging among program participants, collaborating with campus partners on programming designed to enhance student engagement and success beginning the summer prior to incoming students’ first year. The Program Coordinator also organizes enrichment activities for each active cohort throughout the academic year, meets regularly with TLC students to ensure meaningful student support, and maintains a database to track student engagement and assessment data to inform program evaluation and process improvement.

Position-Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities

·         Provide program-level leadership for the implementation of a strategic vision for the TLC Program that aligns with divisional and institutional priorities.

·         Coordinate programming designed to promote the retention of TLC students, including the TLC Summer Program for incoming first-year students and a schedule of mission-based programming throughout the academic year for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year cohorts.

·         Maintain regular and meaningful interaction (e.g., individual meetings, advising sessions) with all first-year TLC students to promote a sense of belonging and equitable access to university resources/opportunities.

·         Serve as general resource and referral agent for all TLC students, as well as a liaison between the TLC program and the broader LMU community.

·         Hire, train, supervise and evaluate TLC student staff.

·         Maintain a database to track TLC student engagement and outcomes related to retention and success. 

·         Engage and work collaboratively with campus partners to ensure mission integration in the planning and implementation of TLC programming.

·         Develop/maintain relationships with community-based partners to provide opportunities for leadership development, personal growth, community involvement, and academic enrichment for TLC students.

·         Collaborate with direct supervisor to coordinate the assessment of the TLC program, the analysis of assessment data, and the reporting of assessment results for internal and external use.

·         Collaborate with Director- or Dean-level supervisor to develop and maintain growth opportunities for the TLC Program through fundraising, grant opportunities, and alumni support.

·         Serve on Divisional and University committees as needed.  

·         Perform other duties as assigned or requested by direct supervisor or other senior administrators.

Requisite Qualifications

  • Typically, a Master’s Degree in Higher Education or related field or equivalent experience.  The incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.

  • Minimum 2 years of higher education, leadership development, programming, and multicultural education experience in progressively responsible positions.  Proven track record of effective project management in a dynamic, service-oriented environment.

  • Demonstrated experience supervising student or para‑professional staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and performance evaluation.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of identity development, leadership development, early academic intervention, multicultural education, and program development.

  • Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and presentation skills. Ability to influence and collaborate across diverse stakeholder groups. Demonstrated record of preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information. 

  • Demonstrated computer competency and proficiency using Microsoft 365 and collaboration tools, as well as web/internet development systems. Familiarity with HR/finance platforms (e.g., Workday).

  • Commitment to equity, access, and belonging; skill in serving a diverse student and supervisor population with professionalism and cultural understanding.

Salary range

$71,100.00 - $88,900.00 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
