Threat Intelligence Analyst

UMB’s Threat Intelligence Team is focused on understanding adversary motives, targets, and behaviors in a rapidly evolving cyber and fraud threat landscape.  Threat intelligence informs UMB’s strategy, enables UMB to make risk-informed decisions, and adjusts its security posture quickly to counteract emerging threats.

As the Threat Intelligence Analyst, you will be responsible for researching, monitoring, and analyzing cyber and fraud threat intelligence data and advising the Corporate Information Security and Privacy (CISP), Information Technology, Corporate Security, Fraud, and other relevant teams to help mitigate risk.  The position is responsible for executing the tactical activities associated with the UMBFC’s threat intelligence program, while assisting with tasks to support CISP frameworks.  This is a subset of the overall responsibilities which will include multiple initiatives assigned by Corporate Risk leadership. 

This role is hybrid (Mon through Thu on-site / Fri remote) at the UMB Corporate Headquarters located in downtown Kansas City, MO.

How you will spend your time:

  • Maintain a current and working understanding of relevant information security, technology, fraud, and industry trends.
  • Collect, analyze, and disseminate emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and actors specific to UMB and the financial services industry to improve understanding of adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), expedite incident response, improve adversary emulation exercises, and continuously advance the collective understanding of threats.
  • Perform research and analysis on data and assist with the coordination and publication of briefs on security threats, non-technical risks, and geo-political issues that have the potential to lead to security risks.
  • Support risk monitoring efforts by working with partners across UMB to develop automation, correlation, and analytics (basic and sophisticated) of relevant data. 
  • Lead cyber and intelligence driven assessments.
  • Provide rapid assessment of potentially imminent threats and advise stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Assist in the response to identify, contain, and eliminate threats.
  • Aggregate threat intelligence and related metrics for reporting to management.
  • Collaborate with Technology and Fraud peers to achieve objectives.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to peer working groups.
  • Support the continuous maturity and evolution of the threat intelligence program by challenging current approaches and proactively identifying improvement opportunities to drive assessment, monitoring and response effectiveness and efficiency. 

We are excited to talk if you have:

  • At least 2 years of experience in IT security/support, banking/fraud, or intelligence roles OR any combination of education and experience that would provide an equivalent background.
  • Basic knowledge of information security, fraud, and technology risk and controls.
  • Ability to think strategically yet comfortable with tactical tasks.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytic skills, including the ability to perform data analysis to support and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to evaluate and execute complex data mining and analysis using MS Excel.
  • Strong self-management, organizational, and planning skills by consistently and effectively balancing multiple commitments and meeting deadlines

Bonus Points if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline at an accredited college or university.
  • Cross channel fraud team experience.
  • Understanding of and practical experience with information systems and information security.
  • Knowledge of the financial services industry.
  • Experience leveraging AI models.
  • Working knowledge of threat modeling, cyber kill chain, cybersecurity Pyramid of Pain, and Fraud Triangle.
  • Awareness of standards and frameworks such as MITRE, COSO, COBIT, ISO, and NIST.
  • Working knowledge of industry fraud applications.

Compensation Range:

$51,480.00 - $99,330.00

The posted compensation range on this listing represents UMB’s standard for this role, but the actual compensation may vary by geographic location, experience level, and other job-related factors.
