Salary Range: AUD $76,515 – $120,000 per annum (commensurate with skills and experience)
Contract Type: Full Time, Fixed Term – 6 months (with possibility of extension)

About the Role

St Vincent’s Private Hospital Melbourne (SVPHM) is seeking a Thoracic Fellow/Registrar for a 6-month full-time fixed-term position with potential for extension. This role is ideal for a senior surgical HMO (PGY3+) passionate about thoracic surgery, looking to refine operative skills and gain extensive exposure to both elective and emergency thoracic cases.

You will work alongside a highly skilled multidisciplinary team and support leading thoracic surgeons in a high-volume, teaching-focused private hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in minimally invasive thoracic procedures, including robotic and endoscopic surgery

  • Manage inpatient care including ward rounds, discharge planning, and patient coordination

  • Participate in emergency and elective thoracic surgery lists

  • Engage in weekly multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, clinical audits and research

  • Maintain administrative duties related to patient care and service performance

  • Support teaching and supervision of junior staff and medical students

About You

To be eligible for this position, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

Essential Criteria

  • General registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

  • Minimum PGY3 level with at least 2 years’ experience in an acute care setting in an Australian hospital or a comparable health country.

  • Demonstrated ability to assess and manage deteriorating patients

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a surgical team

  • Commitment to clinical excellence, patient-centred care, and best practice standards

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in thoracic surgery or upper gastrointestinal procedures

  • Participation in clinical teaching, quality improvement or surgical research initiatives
