Background
BorgWarner Landskrona is part of a global technology leader driving the transition toward cleaner, more efficient mobility solutions. The site plays a central role in developing and manufacturing advanced propulsion technologies used across the automotive industry.
This thesis will focus on packaging and packaging waste. Packaging influences quality, logistics efficiency, production flow and environmental impact. Can we redesign our packaging to use less packaging materials without compromising quality and production flow?
Challenge
Your thesis will focus on waste minimization in packaging design within BorgWarner’s operational context. The challenge lies in finding solutions that reduce material use and environmental impact without compromising the demanding requirements of industrial production.
How can packaging be redesigned to minimize waste while remaining fully compatible with BorgWarner’s production and logistics systems as well as high quality demands?
What design strategies ensure compliance with PPWR without limiting innovation or operational efficiency?
How can sustainability goals be balanced with cost, quality demands, manufacturability, and global supply chain constraints?
Where do current packaging practices fall short — and what practical, scalable improvements can be implemented?
This thesis project places you at the intersection of engineering, sustainability, and regulatory strategy, giving you access to real packaging flows, cross functional expertise, and the chance to influence future packaging standards at a major industrial site.
Project is suitable for 1-2 students, preferably as a master thesis to be able to implement the result in production and evaluate the outcome.
Being fluent in Swedish is not a requirement.
Reporting
Written report, oral presentation and implemented packaging changes.
