The Thermoprint Maintenance Intern is a hands-on, apprentice-style position providing basic technical support to the Thermoprint Maintenance department. The Print Maintenance team is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic functions of equipment and its supporting automation. The Thermoprint Maintenance Intern will assist full-time Maintenance Technicians with certain activities essential to the successful operation of our plant. The ideal candidate for this role is a reliable, organized, and hardworking critical thinker with career aspirations in the field(s) of industrial automation, maintenance technology, manufacturing engineering, materials science, or electromechanical systems.
**The Thermoprint Maintenance Intern will work onsite at the Lawrence, KS facility and is intended to be temporary for the Summer of 2026. This position is expected to work a full-time (40 hours/week) schedule as determined by the Hiring Manager. Off-shift and/or weekend work hours may be required.
Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, initiative, and follow-through from Day 1
Observe and ask questions of the trainer(s), check in regularly with the Supervisor, and proactively report on progress and challenges, collaborating with team members to creatively resolve problems
Support print quality efforts by monitoring output and reporting quality concerns to technicians.
Assist with simple maintenance tasks such as cleaning mandrels, indicating mandrels, and helping with installation or removal when directed
Help identify minor machine issues and escalate concerns to relevant maintenance personnel
Gather information related to product traceability for the Quality Assurance Team when needed
Complete required documentation accurately with guidance from technicians
Embrace a team player mentality by approaching all assigned responsibilities with an open mind and enthusiasm, regardless of scope
Communicate with colleagues in person, via email, and using Microsoft Teams, immediately notifying the Supervisor/nearest leader of any safety concerns, observed Code of Conduct violations, or other emergencies
Participate in required internship programming, attending optional activities when possible, prioritizing the production schedule and assigned job duties
High school diploma/GED equivalent
Currently enrolled college student with relevant coursework in Engineering, Automation, Manufacturing, or related field
Demonstrated positive attitude, intrinsic motivation, high integrity, reliable work ethic, and a team-oriented mindset
Aptitude for and interest in mechanics, machinery, automation, and technically challenging work
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
Familiarity with and confidence in using basic hand tools and measurement instruments
Basic understanding of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic schematics strongly preferred
Ability to multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced production environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to quickly learn new computer software and programs
Able to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE)
Able to stand, walk, bend, or stoop for the majority of an 8-hour shift
Able to lift 35 pounds without assistance
20/20 vision (with correction) and the ability to distinguish colors
Able to safely climb stairs and ladders without assistance
Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
Able to work around grease, oils, solvents, and in dusty environments without adverse reaction
Able to respond to visual and audible alarms and verbally communicate in a manufacturing environment
