Job Description

The Position

The TA (Therapeutic Area) Lead is responsible for managing a professional Medical Affairs team (including Medical Advisor team and Medical Science Liaison team) to generate an outstanding performance in defined therapeutic area. They is required to support the Cluster Medical Director on medical strategy/plan, product positioning and differentiation, life-cycle management, new product launch and product crisis management as well as defined therapeutic area cross-function collaboration, scientific exchange and relationship maintain with TA related HCPs/SLs/KDMs/Societies, budget control and talent development.

Responsibilities     

  • Hires, manages, coaches, develops and retention qualified medical people, and build up an effective team (MA and MSL) in defined therapeutic area.
  • Ensures the cluster medical affairs plan is aligned with brand strategy and accordance with unbiased scientific platform.
  • Responsible for the whole team performance and creating team vision and high-performance culture
  • Responsible for the quality of country medical strategy in defined therapeutic area, both national and regional.
  • Responsible for the whole team budget management and effective utilization of resources.
  • Responsible for the quality of scientific exchange of medical team with external customers
  • Responsible for the medical execution of actionable medical insights.
  • Ensures high standard medical compliance and governance
  • Responsible for ensuring high medical quality of medical material and promotional materials review in defined therapeutic area; responsible for ensuring the medical review and approve process conducted by MA/MSLs are under the regulation of local laws and company policies.
  • Ensures medical events organized by MA and MSL adhere to company compliance policy with non-promotional nature.
  • Plans and implements talent development activities include but not limited to talent evaluation, talent development plan, talent recommendation, succession plan, etc.
  • Responsible for leading the medical team to identify medical opportunities and medical solutions in current trends of diagnosis, existing/emerging treatment options, and unmet medical needs to contribute to new product launch, product positioning and differentiation, mature product’s life cycle management, product crisis management, reimbursement, listing, bidding and market access, etc.
  • Leads the medical team by proactively providing medical support on guidance/consensus generation or updating in defined therapeutic area based on request or needs from external customers.
  • Defines TA specific HCPs/SLs/KDMs scientific exchange objectives and establishes evaluable measurements on annual performance for his/her MA Heads/MAs/MSL managers and conducts year-end review of direct-reports’ performance.
  • Leads the medical team to collaborate with external customers and cross-functions to engage local data generation and other studies in defined therapeutic area.
  • Provides input on optimizing medical department’s process and actively engaging in medical excellence projects.
  • Continuously explores for the innovative way to maximize medical value to company and patients in defined therapeutic area.

    Experience 

    • Deep understanding and knowledge of relevant disease and clinical practice
    • Medical affairs experience in multinational pharmaceutical companies
    • Customer-facing and people management experience in the pharmaceutical industry

    Education / Certificates 

    • MD and/or PhD in medicine or related area
