This role will support management of the Space Systems Test Operations organization. This front-line leader is responsible for the daily management and leadership of Space Systems Test Engineers on the factory floor. This organization provides Systems Test and Special Test Equipment engineers in support of space systems verification and test activities at the satellite factory in El Segundo, CA
Position Responsibilities:
Manage employees performing engineering and technical activities in Space Systems Test and Special Test Equipment operations
Effectively communicate to Senior Leaders and Executive Management
Drive affordability and innovation, including driving the right level of testing and proposing and implementing Cost Effective solutions
Support the execution and implementation of technical and functional excellence projects and processes applicable to the organization. Ensuring technical excellence by developing teammates, providing mentorship and instilling a culture of accountability
Develop and execute plans to support programs, implement policies and procedures and set operational goals. Acquiring resources for projects and programs, providing technical management of suppliers. Developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports
Manage, develop, and motivate employees. Developing project or operational plans aligned to department's objectives
Implementing plans to ensure business, technical and customer requirements are achieved. Assigning authority and responsibilities to employees to execute the plan. Reviewing execution plans, making appropriate adjustments, and resolving issues. Developing and monitoring appropriate metrics to ensure performance to plan
Develop a culture wherein Safety and Quality concerns are identified, assessed and actively managed as one element in the conduct of daily business. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
Must be able to obtain Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) post-start
Direct experience leading or supervising engineering teams in testing, or operations environments, even in informal or acting capacities. This could include serving as a lead shift supervisor, or project lead coordinating the work of direct reports. Experience managing team schedules, assigning tasks, and ensuring deliverables are met on time demonstrates readiness for formal management responsibilities
Hands-on experience in production or test environments where safety, quality, and efficiency are paramount. Background managing workflows, optimizing processes, or implementing continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma). Experience with capacity planning, resource allocation, or managing competing priorities in dynamic operational settings
Experience mentoring, training, or on-boarding new team members in technical environments. Track record of providing performance feedback, conducting one-on-ones, or developing talent within a team. Demonstrated commitment to building team capability and fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Proven ability to work across multiple departments such as program office, engineering, quality, manufacturing. Experience facilitating communication between technical staff and management, translating complex technical issues into actionable business decisions. Track record of resolving conflicts, removing blockers, and keeping projects moving forward through collaborative problem-solving
Prior experience in test engineering, quality assurance, or manufacturing operations is highly desirable. Any hands-on experience with test equipment, data acquisition systems, or automated test frameworks would strengthen a candidate’s readiness for the role
Demonstrated leadership through industry or academic projects or previous work roles shows potential to manage a team. Familiarity with project management fundamentals, scheduling tools, or Agile/Scrum methodologies would be beneficial, even if gained through coursework or entry-level exposure
Proficiency with or strong knowledge of electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and signal generators is valuable. Knowledge of test documentation, procedures, and configuration management practices would also be advantageous
Familiarity with satellite subsystems including power, thermal, propulsion, or communications would help the candidate understand test objectives more quickly. Awareness of industry standards like MIL-STD, NASA requirements, or AS9100 quality systems demonstrates relevant industry knowledge
Strong communication skills for coordinating across engineering disciplines and presenting results are essential. Problem-solving ability and comfort working in fast-paced manufacturing environments will serve the candidate well. Attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality are critical in satellite testing operations
Experience in aerospace, defense, medical devices, automotive, or other industries with stringent quality and compliance requirements. Familiarity with working in aerospace environments handling sensitive or high value hardware or operating under strict documentation and traceability protocols. Background in industries where failure is not an option and where systematic, disciplined approaches to testing and validation are required
