The Test Engineer will work in an applied engineering laboratory serving the oil & gas industry, with a strong focus on research, development, and qualification of flexible pipes. Being the professional responsible supports the performance across small-, medium-, and large-scale equipment, ensuring high-quality data, safe operations, and reliable technical outcomes.

The environment is a multidisciplinary and highly experimental environment. Responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and optimizing industrial automation systems, focusing on process control, data acquisition, and safety, using Scrum and productivity practices based on Getting Things Done or similar.

As an automation Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for:

The role combines hands-on automation engineering, experimental testing, system modernization, technical support, and training, while applying structured project execution through Scrum and personal productivity practices inspired by Getting Things Done.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Bachelor’s degree in:

Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering. Control & Automation Engineering, Production Engineering (automation/process focus), Electrotechnical Engineering or related engineering fields, with 6 + years of experience in industrial automation, testing, or R&D environments.

  • Plan and design test programs for laboratory, pilot, and full-scale systems, defining scope, methodologies, instrumentation, and acceptance criteria
  • Execute and supervise tests involving industrial equipment and flexible pipe systems under realistic operating conditions
  • Perform qualification of flexible pipes, ensuring compliance with industry standards and technical requirements
  • Develop and program automation systems using PLC to control and monitor test rigs
  • Design and operate supervisory systems using SCADA for real-time monitoring and data acquisition
  • Develop and optimize operator interfaces via Interface Homem-Machine PLC ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Ensure data integrity, traceability, and analysis, transforming raw experimental data into actionable engineering insights
  • Lead modernization (retrofit) initiatives for test benches and automation systems, improving performance and reliability
  • Provide advanced technical support, both in laboratory and field environments, including troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
  • Produce high-quality technical reports, test documentation, and engineering recommendations
  • Train and mentor engineers and technical staff on equipment operation, automation systems, and testing methodologies
  • Develop training materials, procedures, and best practices documentation
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, especially in high-risk environments (pressure, temperature, hydrocarbons)
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and software engineering)
  • Manage and prioritize activities using structured approaches such as Scrum and Getting Things Done
  • Continuously improving testing methods, automation systems, and laboratory capabilities

Required Qualifications

  • Strong experience with PLC programming
  • Hands-on experience with SCADA systems
  • Experience in Interface Man-Machine development
  • Proven experience in multi-scale testing (lab, pilot, full-scale)
  • Experience in equipment qualification (flexible pipes is highly desirable)
  • Strong knowledge of data acquisition and analysis
  • Experience in system modernization (retrofit)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Experience writing detailed technical reports
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies such as Scrum
  • Strong organizational skills (e.g., Getting Things Done or similar)
  • English Proficiency (Mandatory)
  • Advanced or fluent English (spoken and written)
  • Ability to write technical reports and documentation in English
  • Ability to communicate with international teams and stakeholders
  • Ability to deliver technical training in English
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to guide, influence, and collaborate effectively, demonstrating strong interpersonal and leadership capabilities.

  • The laboratory is in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil.
  • The role follows a Monday to Friday schedule, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • The role is primarily on-site, aligned with laboratory operations, with the possibility of one remote working day weekly when possible.
  • Occasional travel is expected for the follow-up of testing activities at contracted laboratories, as well as for meetings at client offices.
