Job Description:

The opportunity

As a Test Engineer, you will work with the planning, preparation, and execution of tests with High power voltage to secure the quality of the HVDC electronics used in HVDC converter valves. The role is broad and varied, combining technical knowledge, electrical testing, practical hands-on work, coordination, and planning. You will act as a central link between multiple internal functions, as well as customers and external partners.

You will be part of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) in Ludvika. We develop, manufacture, and sell DC transmission systems for the global market. HVDC technology is used to transmit electrical energy over long distances, for power transmission via undersea cables, and to connect power systems where traditional AC solutions are not efficient, such as between grids with different frequencies.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Be involved in the development and quality assurance of some of the most advanced power converters on the market.
  • Take responsibility within Internal continuous improvement projects and other development projects, acting as a Test Lead Engineer in planning and executing test activities, or actively driving a process improvement.
  • Participate in development and delivery of tests of electrical components in power converters, including high-voltage testing.
  • Plan and coordinate test activities involving materials, equipment, test setups, people from different departments, suppliers, and customers.
  • Prepare test environments and rigs, including practical setup work such as mounting equipment, safety netting, grounding, and securing test objects.
  • Handle contact with suppliers, logistics centers, and transport companies using established collaboration channels.
  • Contribute quotations and cost estimations for test activities (experience is beneficial, but this can also be learned on the job).
  • Work with and manage various IT systems related to testing, planning, and documentation.
  • This role demands the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while seamlessly coordinating complex test activities.

Your background

  • An engineering degree in Electrical High Power Engineering or a related field is beneficial but not required; relevant work experience and an all-round technical profile are equally important.
  • Proven technical interest, with a willingness to learn new technologies and develop within the role.
  • Experience or interest in electrical testing, high‑voltage testing, power converters, or power electronics is highly advantageous.
  • Knowledge of electrical measurement technology and electrical design is a plus.
  • Experience with different measurement systems and practical, hands‑on technical work.
  • Comfortable working in a role with many interfaces, acting as a “spider in the web” between engineering, production, logistics, suppliers, and customers.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate complex activities involving both technical and organizational challenges.
