Test Development Intern

Overview

The High Power Laser NPI Team is seeking a motivated and technically strong Test Development Intern to support test system design and automation initiatives.

In this role, you will contribute to the development of test systems, automation frameworks, and data management applications for Fiber Laser products. You will collaborate closely with Hardware, Software, Optical, and Manufacturing teams to develop efficient and robust test solutions that improve product quality, reliability, and manufacturing efficiency.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in laser characterization, manufacturing test development, and statistical data analysis within a high-tech production environment.

Responsibilities

The Test Engineering Intern will:

  • Design and develop test and measurement systems for laser characterization, reliability, quality, and manufacturing applications
  • Ensure robustness, accuracy, and repeatability of measurement systems
  • Plan and execute statistical experiments and perform data analysis
  • Analyze test data, including GR&R, Cp/Cpk, and SPC metrics, to assess product performance and integrity
  • Propose innovative methods to measure critical parameters that are currently difficult or impossible to measure
  • Document test procedures, system architecture, and experimental results
  • Support manufacturing engineers in failure analysis (HW/SW-related)
  • Explore AI-assisted data analysis techniques to improve anomaly detection, yield monitoring, and root cause identification

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer science,  Physics, or a related technical field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong initiative and ability to work through complex technical challenges
  • Experience with Python, LabVIEW, and/or SQL
  • Familiarity with production SPC, GR&R, Cp/Cpk, and statistical analysis tools (e.g., JMP)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Hands-on experience with optical test instrumentation, such as:
    • Optical power meters
    • Photodiodes
    • Spectrometers
    • Optical spectrum analyzers
    • Beam quality measurement equipment
  • Experience with image processing or machine vision systems
  • Familiarity with data science, machine learning, or AI-based analytics tools is a plus
  • Experience working with large datasets and building data visualization dashboards

Pay Range: $27.75 - 54.30/hour USD
