As a Test Automation Lead, you will play a pivotal role in to spearhead the testing strategy and execution for advanced Electrosurgical devices. As Lead you will provide technical leadership across multiple projects, mentor teams, and drive innovation in a regulated Agile/DevOps environment.

What will you be doing?

  • Automation Framework Ownership: This role demands a subject matter expert with deep expertise in Python-based automation, maintain advanced automation frameworks using Python, PyTest, and tools like VectorCast, Unity, or CMock for C/C++ firmware testing in FreeRTOS and bare-metal environments, and compliance with medical device standards (e.g., IEC 62304, ISO 13485).
  • Develop and maintain automated test framework for system and software verification.

  • Test Strategy and Leadership: Design and lead the implementation of a comprehensive test automation strategy for testing Electrosurgical device software and systems.
  • Key internal relationships include collaboration with firmware, hardware, and QA teams. External relationships may involve regulatory bodies for compliance.
  • Define objectives, scope, and methodologies for system, software and regression testing, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards.
  • Oversee the development of automated test cases and scripts to meet quality and safety requirements.

  • Test Execution and Verification: The role focuses on Electrosurgical device software and systems, with strict adherence to medical device regulatory requirements. Lead execution of automated tests to validate complex algorithms, data processing, and system performance across FreeRTOS and bare-metal platforms.
  • Drive system and software verification, ensuring functional and safety requirements are met.
  • Manage regression testing and coverage analysis to prevent defects in updates.
  • Develop and maintain CI modules for regression, verification modules

  • Team Leadership and Mentorship: Lead and mentor a team of test engineers, providing technical guidance and conducting formal code and test plan reviews.
  • Collaborate with firmware, hardware, and QA teams to align testing with development and regulatory goals.
  • Serve as a best practice resource within and beyond the testing discipline and drive innovation in a regulated Agile/DevOps environment.

  • DevOps and CI/CD Integration: Oversee integration of automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar tools.
  • Optimize test environments for consistent, scalable execution across projects.

  • Tool Management and Reporting: Configure and manage advanced automation and static analysis tools for test execution, coverage, and quality metrics.
  • Generate detailed test reports and present findings to senior management and cross-functional stakeholders.

What will you need to be successful?

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Biomedical Engineering.
  • Certifications: Like ISTQB Advanced Level or equivalent.
  • Experience: 6+ years (BS) or 3+ years (MS) in test automation, with significant experience in medical device system and software testing.
  • Expert-level Python programming with PyTest or equivalent; proficiency in C/C++ for firmware testing.
  • Advanced knowledge of CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, Git) and test management tools (e.g., JIRA).
  • Proven leadership in unit, integration, and system verification for embedded systems (FreeRTOS or bare metal).

  • Track record as a technical lead on large-scale projects.
  • Tools Experience: Mastery of FreeRTOS, bare-metal environments, and standards like IEC 62304 and ISO 13485.
  • Experience with HIL testing and Electrosurgical instruments is highly desirable.
  • Experience with advanced debugging and optimization in regulated environments is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
