Test and QA Technician

Runwise is looking for a Test and QA Technician who is highly motivated, results-oriented, and passionate about building products that customers love. 

Runwise (www.runwise.com) is a fast-paced, customer-focused climate-tech startup that controls and runs the key energy systems (heating, water, etc.) in 6000+ buildings throughout the US. Runwise’s unique hardware and software service significantly reduces energy usage, substantially lowering costs and carbon output. As of today, Runwise’s technology takes the equivalent of 50,000 cars worth of carbon emissions off the road each year. Runwise has offices in New York and Boston but is a remote-first product/engineering company, and has been since its creation. 

We’re looking for a Test and QA Technician to assist the engineering team in identifying failures or weaknesses in our RF wireless network devices, and implementing changes that make our system more robust. In this role, you will be responsible for isolating the root cause of system issues, and communicating with the engineering team to troubleshoot. You will be expected to be an advocate for network device reliability within the company, and you will take a leading role in helping the engineering team to aggressively test our systems.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyze device performance in buildings, and look for patterns in failures that could indicate firmware bugs or design shortcomings
  • Visit Runwise buildings to install, reprogram, or remove devices, and assist on-site data gathering for analysis by the engineering team
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing test jigs and fixtures as needed
  • Suggest and conduct experiments using Runwise’s RF test chamber system to stress test device communications under various conditions

You have:

  • 5+ years of experience working with electronic equipment
  • Experience shaping, building, or coordinating product development from idea to finished product
  • Ability to complete complex or unclear tasks by using good judgment to produce the desired end effects
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with individuals of various seniority across the company, as well as customers
  • Ability to quickly absorb technical concepts and effectively communicate with technical and non-technical partners
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining focus and accuracy
  • Confidence to make well-informed, independent decisions while escalating issues as appropriate
  • Experience working with integrated hardware and software is a major plus

Salary range: $75,000 - $90,000 based on experience level
