Territory Director - Personal Lines (Partner Management / National Accounts)

This Territory Director is a National Accounts Director role within Nationwide’s Personal Lines Sales & Distribution organization.  They role will report to the Partner Management AVP, supporting Personal Lines  engagement and activation of assigned Networks and Brokers (firms) to deliver long term profitable growth.

This is a senior level individual contributor role, which will manage Personal Lines relationships and results with assigned firms, partnering with the Regional Management team to deliver consistent local level activation, and where applicable, collaborating with Nationwide National Partners (NNP) on Personal Lines activation for shared firms. 

As a remote / work-from-home (WFH) role, this person can be based anywhere in the country, though close proximity to a major airport is ideal.

  • Countrywide travel is required; on average 50%, and varying throughout the year. 

Qualified candidates must have Property & Casualty Insurance expertise and a skillset that includes strong collaboration, with the ability to closely and effectively partner with other teams for greater success. Strong preference for familiarity with and existing relationships within the Independent Agency distribution channel, as well as carrier-side territory management experience.

This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization.  Nationwide does not participate in the Stem OPT Extension program.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:   

  • Accountable, through direct or indirect team leadership, for achieving the aggregated desired business results within defined span of control.  

  • Utilizes data and analytics to understand national market and industry trends, including competitor products, rates, distribution channels, regulatory and demographic environments, to understand competitors and business opportunities. Also uses data and analytics to identify opportunities with distribution partners and actions those opportunities directly with them or through the appropriate territory manager(s).  

  • Established performance expectations for territory managers related to agency management, appointments, transfers, contract types, portfolio management, profitability, etc.  

  • Motivates territory managers to drive performance and achieve business results with key distribution partners, utilizing understanding of contracts, agency compensation, incentives, and other related metrics; actively engages in the best sales mentoring methods with team; focuses on overall development and development of sales acuity.  

  • Partners with Product, Marketing and other business partners as appropriate to identify and act on opportunities within span of control.  

  • Understands the strategic and operational goals of their geography/span of control to identify solutions/opportunities leveraging data and analytics, local marketplace information, and competitor knowledge.  

  • Engages with partners across the P&C organization (e.g., CL and Farm) to share opportunities and identify continuous improvement opportunities.  

  • Drive utilization of tools and resources available to increase operational efficiency (e.g., Salesforce, Seismic, Dashboards, Reports, etc.)  

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.   

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Personal Lines Sales Associate Vice President; direct reports depend on assigned territory but typically include 10 or fewer Territory Managers  

Typical Skills and Experiences:   

Education: Undergraduate studies in general business, insurance, sales, marketing or related fields. Graduate degree preferred.

Experience: A minimum of ten years of sales or sales management experience. Prior property casualty or financial services experience desirable. Previous leadership experience highly desirable.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Frequent travel within assigned territory. Most leaders work from a remote location, such as an office out of their home. A valid driver’s license and safe driving record may be required.

The national salary range for Territory Director - Personal Lines : $136,000.00-$242,000.00

The expected starting salary range for Territory Director - Personal Lines : $136,000.00 - $204,000.00
