Temporary Video Producer/Editor, Page Six

NYC - 1211 Ave of the Americas Full time

Job Description :

The New York Post provides readers with the best in News, Sports, Pop Culture and Entertainment – with signature wit, irreverence and authority averaging 90 million unique viewers a month. For the past 224 years, The Post has evolved into a multi-platform media company spanning print, digital, video, audio, app, television and commerce.

The Page Six video team is seeking an on-site Video Producer/Editor (temporary) to help us distribute existing series and create compelling, shareable videos about gossip, celebrities, reality TV and fashion - subjects that are the mainstay of the nation’s most iconic gossip column. You should love celebrity journalism and possess deep knowledge about the latest celebrity news, feuds, scandals and hookups. You should live and breathe celebrity lifestyle, fashion and social media, with your fingers on the pulse.

This producer will be responsible for prioritization of breaking news and series to be created in our new state of the art studio. The successful applicant will be responsible for editorial decision making. We pinpoint videos with potential before they become widely distributed and we use analytics software like Parsley to help make those determinations. But you also must have the editorial eye to anticipate big stories before they are published. You’ll work in an extremely fast-paced environment enabling producers to hit production targets and goals. You will assist on dozens of videos throughout the day, which means you need to be able to strategize, prioritize and multitask. Must be comfortable writing scripts and juggling stories with asking questions and keeping everyone in the loop throughout the day. Good communication skills and initiative are key. You must be able to fact-check and assure accuracy, even while working quickly.

This is a fast-paced job that requires a love of all things celebrity, a strong editorial sense and the ability to stay organized while multitasking.

Like us, you believe news doesn’t have to be boring and you appreciate the odd and unconventional stories as well as important ones.

This is an opportunity to work with an iconic media brand as it experiences exponential digital growth. New York Post and Page Six videos have received more than a billion views in the past few years.

 Responsibilities:

  • You will communicate closely with the Executive Producer about the best approaches and priorities for videos and studio shoots, assist in video production, identifying needs and pitching story ideas to the EP.

  • Know about video on all platforms and have a knowledge of what videos perform well on Instagram, Youtube, Facebook and Twitter. Must be aware of latest formats and trends in digital video as a distinct form of content versus television.

  • Pitch video ideas daily and contribute to team brainstorming.

  • Write and refine scripts for the studio, elevating content through compelling, audience-first, storytelling.

  • Learn how to add videos to articles and publish on social platforms such as YouTube

The ideal candidate will have/be:

  • Thorough knowledge of studio and control room operations

  • At least 5 years working in production, with scripting experience

  • Can edit basic video on Adobe Premiere

  • Daily newsroom experience is key. Candidates should have experience working in a state-of-the-art, fast paced, live control room environment

  • Experience with Airtable, Wordpress, Parsley and JW Player CMS a plus

  • Ability to work very quickly under pressure and juggle dozens of videos throughout the day

  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills required. This applicant must always exhibit professionalism, a strong work ethic, and a ‘can do’ positive attitude.

  • Organized, resourceful, and a team player

  • Be willing to work non traditional hours such as holidays, nights and big tentpole events when needed

Note: This is a five day a week in-office job. Please submit a resume and cover letter.

This role has an expected duration of 4-5 months. Subject to change depending on business needs.

Please note that this is a temporary engagement facilitated through a third-party vendor. While the role supports The New York Post, employment and payroll will be managed by the vendor.
