About the Position

As a Temporary Mail Clerk, you will assist in facilitating the election process by using the mail-opening machinery to ensure all mail is opened, moved, and processed. This position requires the employee to be in the office/field or customer-facing for all hours worked.

We Require

This position requires a high school diploma or GED.

Other Requirements

  • Must be a registered voter, or have the ability to become a registered voter, in the State of Arizona by the time of hire
  • Must pass an applicable background screening
  • Must be able to work overtime as necessary

Job Contributions

  • Requires long periods of standing while utilizing electronic mail opening machinery to open ballots in bulk prior to pre-tabulation ballot processing

  • Pushes and pulls baker racks that weigh up to 150 pounds and postal cages weighing up to 250 pounds around the mail room, pre-tabulation processing staging area, or secured ballot vault

  • Assists with end-of-day clean-up and mail room organization

  • Assists other divisions of Elections with their daily functions and activities, along with other job duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • Full-time/Temporary/Overtime/Holiday hours are mandatory during the election cycle
  • Ability to review small fonts on hard copy
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to walk on an inclined surface
  • Upper extremity repetitive motion, pivoting a minimum of up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to lift floor-to-shoulder and shoulder-to-waist a minimum of up to 20 pounds and carry up to 450 feet
  • Ability to reach overhead and lift a minimum of up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to push/pull a minimum of up to 250 pounds for up to 450 feet
  • Ability to work in close proximity to others
  • Duties may be performed indoors or outdoors, including high temperatures
  • Exposure to dust particles and loud noise may occur
  • All operations will be conducted under livestream cameras and in the presence of political observers
  • Must not engage in any political discussion during the election
