The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Wideband Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Transmissions and Payload Controller, in support of a Wideband SATCOM Operations Center (WSOC).
Major Duties:
Qualifications: Conditions of Employment Continued: May be required to work an irregular tour (i.e., shift work). May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis. Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Administrative and Management Positions and Individual Occupational Requirements for Telecommunications Series 0391. EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have three years of progressively responsible general work experience with one (1) year of that experience at the next lower broadband NH-1, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems, which provides a basic knowledge of telecommunications functions, problems, and/or solutions. OR EDUCATION: Full four-year course of study leading to a Bachelor's degree with a major study in electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, public utilities, statistics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, business administration, industrial management, or other fields related to the position to be filled. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet the total qualification requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge Wideband SATCOM systems and operations sufficient to serve as a technical advisor to other satellite controllers. 2. Ability to configure and operate Wideband satellite systems, management, planning, and tools to ensure authorized levels of performance. 3. Skill in working with customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations. 4. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 5. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and determine resource requirements; determine goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinate with other organizations; monitor progress, and evaluate outcomes. 6. Ability to identify problems and use sound judgment and decisions to generate and evaluate alternatives and make recommendations. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
