Job Summary

The Telecommunications Operator is responsible for operation of PBX Console

Friday - Monday 3:00pm - 11:00pm

Job Specific Responsibilities

Daily assignments include but are not limited to:

• Operates a telephone console in receiving incoming and intercampus calls, transferring calls, taking accurate messages for intended recipients, and providing non technical informaion upon request to callers or specific department staff
• Establishes, monitors, and logs conference calls; Identify and report unusual or reoccurring calls.
• Manage messaging and paging services for physician administrators and designated employees
• Route emergency calls; Call pages for emergency codes.
• Performs all other related work as assigned

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or GED

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to provide telephone or email support to end users for technical questions or issues
• Self motivated and can work with minimum supervision
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and in cases of emergency

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships

Must be able to work well with a wide variety of people, often in stressful situations. Though patient contact is very limited the incumbent must be able to work in the patient care environment while maintaining the dignity of those patients.

Physical Capabilities

Must be able to carry, push, pull, and lift up to 20 pounds. Work involves sitting for extended periods of time. Visual and auditory aptitude is required.
