Purpose of the Role
- The Telecom Installation Site Engineer is responsible for the execution, supervision, and coordination of day-to-day Telecom installation activities on site, ensuring that all works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, method statements, project specifications, quality standards, and HSE requirements, within a live operational metro environment.
Job Requirements (Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years in telecommunications installation
- Proven experience in Rehabilitation or railway projects is highly preferred.
- Good knowledge of railway Telecom systems and interfaces
- Proven experience in Fiber Optic (FO) splicing, devices installation, and rack mounting.
- Proven experience supervising and leading installation teams.
- Good communication, coordination, and reporting skills.
- Problem-solving and decision-making capability
- Professional approach in dealing with Clients and Authorities
- Site-based role with night shifts and weekend works as required
- Ability to work under pressure and restricted access conditions.
- English: Very good (written and spoken)
Key Responsibilities
- Execute and supervise day-to-day Telecom installation activities on site in accordance with approved drawings, method statements, and work procedures.
- Install and support installation of railway telecom systems and associated field equipment.
- Allocate daily tasks, work fronts, and priorities to the supervisors and technicians in accordance with the approved installation plan.
- Ensure installation works comply with project specifications, quality requirements, and Hitachi Rail standards.
- Provide direct technical guidance and hands-on support to installation teams during installation activities.
- Monitor productivity, workmanship quality, and compliance of the installation personnel.
- Ensure installation teams execute works strictly in accordance with approved drawings, method statements, and Hitachi Rail procedures.
- Coordinate shift arrangements, night works, and access windows for installation teams in a live metro environment.
- Compare site conditions with station coordination drawings; identify "clashes" (e.g., a pipe blocking a camera mount) and propose solutions.
- Enforce HSE rules, safe work practices, and permit requirements for all in-house installation activities.
- Coordinate Telecom activities with Consortium partners (Civil, Power, Track)
- Identify site issues, technical constraints, and resource needs and follow them with the Telecom Installation Manager.
- Report daily progress, site issues, and technical constraints to the Telecom Installation Manager.
- Conduct inspections, prepare PICOs, checklists, and installation records.
- Support testing, commissioning, redline drawings, and as-built documentation with installation team.
