The Role at a Glance
Under general supervision, the TEEX Public Safety Counselor IV provides trauma-informed counseling and wellness support tailored to public safety professionals, including law enforcement, fire service, EMS, telecommunicators, and emergency management personnel. This position requires an in-depth understanding of first responder culture, operational stress, and barriers to help-seeking within public service response systems. The TEEX Public Safety Counselor IV provides both in-person and virtual clinical services, participates in critical incident response, and collaborates with peer-support teams, chaplains, and agency leadership to build resilience and sustain wellness across the first responder community. May provide clinical supervision to master’s and doctoral-level counseling interns and practicum students.
This position reports to the Program Director, Public Safety Wellness.
Qualifications of the Role
Master’s degree or higher in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related behavioral health field from an accredited college or university.
Ten years of experience providing counseling services to first responders, military, or other high-risk occupational populations, including collaborating with peer-support teams, law enforcement, fire, EMS, or emergency management organizations.
Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Current licensure in Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Psychologist. (Must maintain an unrestricted license in good standing with the respective Texas licensing board.)
Any one or combination of the following certifications including: CPT, TF-CBT, ART and/or EMDR OR equivalent related clinical experience.
Equivalency: None due to degree requirements for licenses/certifications.
