We help people live their best lives. We help them with the big stuff, for the moments that matter: Pensions, Savings, Investments. At Aegon, we strive in creating a diverse organisation that plays a meaningful role in driving greater equity, inclusion and belonging.

Technology is at the heart of what we do. We’re on an exciting journey to modernise how we work – upgrading our systems, boosting our data and engineering capabilities and driving innovation. That means combining cutting-edge digital and cloud solutions with our platforms.

We’ve got an exciting opportunity for a Technology Lead to join our team. As a Technology Lead, you’ll drive delivery across established teams, ensuring they build valid high-quality solutions that meets customer and business needs. You’ll ensure that our teams are adding value by championing the correct solutions, as well as improving processes and guiding technical decisions to enable better outcomes. This role often spans multiple teams, requiring strong leadership and influencing skills to align delivery across a complex environment.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Bringing together cross-functional teams – aligning engineers, analysts, architects, and other specialists to deliver high-quality solutions. Your leadership will ensure collaboration, technical excellence and a shared focus on outcomes.
  • Lead technical planning, estimation and delivery across multiple initiatives.
  • Contribute towards effective BAU Governance delivery.
  • Own service quality – ensuring performance, resilience, and tech debt reduction.
  • Manage defects and issues to maintain system stability and reliability.
  • Oversee work intake, backlog prioritisation and delivery flow.
  • Monitor development costs and drive technical efficiency (e.g. cloud spend).
  • Ensure governance and performance tracking through metrics and controls.
  • Enable high-performing teams by embedding Agile.
  • Foster collaboration, continuous improvement, and a strong engineering culture.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • A technical background in roles such as engineering, architecture, technical business analysis, or business governance.
  • Knowledge of service transition, availability, and maintenance.
  • Strong influencing skills to lead cross-functional teams without direct line management.
  • Strong understanding of the engineering lifecycle – branching, code reviews, release governance, and change control.
  • Exposure to build automation, deployment techniques, and production practices like observability and monitoring.
  • Deep technical knowledge and ability to lead meaningful conversations across engineering and architecture.
  • Familiarity with modern engineering practices including Agile, cloud platforms, automation, CI/CD, and tooling like Bitbucket or GitHub.
  • Experience building strong relationships across senior stakeholders, product and delivery teams.
  • A knowledge of how software is built, deployed and maintained across platforms and disciplines.
  • You thrive in ambiguity, bringing a mindset of continuous improvement and adaptability.

  • A discretionary bonus, depending on personal and company performance
