What we want

The Technician I is a full-time grant funded position in the Medical Physiology.  The Technician I, under general supervision, assists in planning research on support laboratory methods and techniques, carrying out procedures, and recording results for a series of closely controlled experiments.

Salary: Will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience.   

Location/Schedule: Bryan, TX/Full-Time; This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of laboratory, research, or related experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in science field.

  • Ability to perform experiments on laboratory mice and rats.

  • Experience in immunohistochemistry and microscopy.

  • Tissue collection and processing.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.


Responsibilities

Basic Science Research

  • Conducts experiments and technical procedures.

  • Assist with planning and supervising technical operations.

  • Make complex chemical and physicals analyses which, although they follow standard procedures and test, may require the exercise of some ingenuity and improvisation.

  • Independently manage genetically engineered rodent colonies.

  • Performs mouse genotyping.

  • Maintains animal inventory.

  • Assist co-workers with research studies, experiments and assays including collection of data, preparation of solutions, setup, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

  • Tissue collection and processing including immunohistochemistry and microscopy.


Data Analyses

  • Keep detailed records of observations, measurements, and data.

  • Effectively use statistical software for routine data analysis. 


Laboratory and Equipment Maintenance

  • Maintain laboratory inventories and place laboratory orders.

  • General laboratory maintenance and cleanliness.
