Metallurgical Technician

Position Summary:

The Metallurgical Technician prepares samples for analysis and performs a limited range of basic metallurgical services under the direct supervision of the Group Leader. This role involves conducting mechanical and magnetic tests, metallographic evaluations, and recording test data. The position may be located in Mechanical Testing, Preparation, Metallographic Testing, Magnetic Testing, or Heat Treating.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare samples for analysis and examination.

  • Perform mechanical and magnetic tests using standard equipment (e.g., hardness, tension, tensile, resistivity).

  • Conduct metallographic tests using etchants, polishing equipment, and standard metallographic tools.

  • Collect and accurately record test data during evaluations.

  • Complete all other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma required.

  • Entry-level position; prior experience not required.

  • Basic knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods, and practices.

  • Familiarity with metallurgical/laboratory equipment.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to solve routine problems using standard procedures.

  • Respond effectively to standard internal or external customer requests.

  • Manage time efficiently to meet deadlines under guidance.

  • Work collaboratively within the department to achieve team goals.
