This position works out of our Altavista, VA location in the Abbott Nutrition division. Our Nutrition business develops science-based nutrition products for people of all ages, from helping babies and children grow to keeping adult bodies strong and active. What You’ll Work On
- Work with Plant Engineering on new projects or construction to determine design specifications and conformance to Abbott Engineering Standards as well as continuity with existing plant installations.
- Evaluate and determine resources needed such as parts, outside contractors, and internal assistance.
- Create, use and interpret engineering drawings, models, sketches, templates, tool design manuals, verbal information, and digital data to determine required repairs.
- Fabricate, rework, and maintain tools / fixtures by performing such tasks as cutting, grinding, hand finishing, shaping, welding, set up and machining.
- Comply with all safety regulations required and applied to perform daily work safely.
- Support Production / Facilities departments in reducing and eliminating equipment / tooling downtime utilizing analytical methodologies.
- Perform maintenance to the equipment assigned (tooling area) per scheduled provided. Complete accurately all documentation required for work orders.
- Report the results by means of formal reports and applicable documents established by our clients, management and business expectations.
- Promote continuous improvement of our maintenance systems in order to comply with both internal and external clients.
- Verifies conformance of work to specifications.
- Interact with our external and internal clients on the scope of proper accomplishment of customer needs.
- Promotes and performs continuous improvement projects of maintenance and production system in order to comply or enhance key performance indicators.
- Any additional responsibility deemed necessary by management.
- Tool Shop Administration, projects tracking and prioritization.
- Create and update graphical control interfaces and use to monitor HVAC operation.
- Service and maintain plant air handling and Energy Center equipment via PM’s and demand work orders.
- Perform advanced mechanical and electrical tasks required to maintain air handling and Energy Center equipment.
- Create and modify PLC programming as required to maintain proper operation.
- Order materials and parts and initiate work orders required to complete work.
- Review any new air handling and utility equipment to assure conformance to Abbott codes.
- Read and understand schematic drawings on mechanical and electrical parts.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Requires the ability to plan, estimate, sequence, and schedule work assignments.
- Requires ability to use and interpret tooling and engineering drawings, models, sketches, templates, tool design manuals, verbal information, and digital data to determine required repairs.
- Proficiency in computer applications (MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint).
- Ability to work with various hand and power tools is required.
- Customer services skills are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical Degree preferred.

The base pay for this position is
$22.05 – $44.15/hour
