Job Summary
The Technician 4 is responsible for the setup and operation of Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) components and related automated assembly equipment. This role requires adjusting machine parameters—including speed and temperature—to accommodate various product types and sizes, while ensuring quality, accuracy, and adherence to safety standards.
Job Duties
- Demonstrate strong familiarity with SMT electronic components and the SMT assembly process.
- Set up and operate automated SMT assembly equipment, including:
- Screen Printer
- Glue Dispensing Machine
- Pick and Place Machine
- Reflow Oven
- Properly clean printed circuit boards (PCBs) according to established procedures.
- Perform basic soldering and rework of SMT components; successful completion of Flex-provided solder training is required.
- Pick components and prepare manufacturing kits as needed.
- Conduct visual inspections of SMT assemblies to ensure quality standards are met.
- Maintain accurate and timely job tracking records.
- Interpret and apply IPC-A-610 acceptability standards and customer-specific requirements.
- Use standard hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and cutters safely and effectively.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and present a neat personal appearance.
- Be accountable for the quality, quantity, and inspection of all assigned work.
- Follow all safety procedures, practice safe work habits, and report unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
- Maintain working knowledge of the Flex employee handbook and company policies.
- Train co-workers and provide support during troubleshooting or production issues.
Education
- High School or GED degree. Prior electronics experience preferred.
Skills/Knowledge
- Basic soldering (Identify & correctly insert parts). Have a general knowledge of manufacturing processes. Read and interpret assembly prints. Able to work with speed and accuracy. Able to communicate effectively and relate to co-workers. Able to follow verbal instructions. Mechanical assembly and soldering ability.
