What you will do
We are looking for an experienced and motivated technical communicator who wants to make a difference.
The senior information developer (ID) is a technical documentation specialist who can deliver high quality content and guide junior team members to do the same. You will organise development work on a daily and weekly basis for your team. As part of the Global Technical Communications team located in Cork, you will support Johnson Controls business units to fulfil their technical documentation requirements. The senior ID plays an important role in implementing the tech comms roadmap and is expected to contribute to improving the quality of their team’s content. You will work closely with stakeholder teams to deliver technical content according to product deadlines.
How you will do it
The Senior ID independently develops complex documents and document strategies for team members. You will work with engineers to obtain source material and will supervise other information developers in the creation of documentation sets for new products (mainly JCI security products). As an expert in the technical writing field, you will implement standard industry style guides in addition to the JCI house style. You will work with document control and peer review systems. You will interact with engineers from around the world. You should adapt readily to changing work demands and maintain composure under pressure. You must work effectively with peers, share information, demonstrate integrity, and deliver on your commitments.
What we look for
Extensive experience writing and editing technical content.
Four year degree in a writing or technical discipline (technical documentation, journalism, English, computer science).
4 years as a technical writer.
Expertise in creating a variety of outputs including PDFs, web, help files, and other digital media.
Experience understanding of documentation software such as Arbortext, Oxygen, Framemaker, MadCap Flare, etc.
Ability to create raster and vector illustrations with minimal supervision using standard tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or GIMP.
Knowledge of established processes, style guides, and best practices for the design and creation of technical content
Previous leadership responsibilities
Background in topic-based writing
Planning and scheduling skills
Project management skills
Knowledge of DITA or other XML standards
Experience with API documentation
Experience working on global team
