IonQ is developing the world's most powerful full-stack quantum computer based on trapped-ion technology. We are seeking a Technical Writer who loves quantum computing for our Developer Tools team. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in quantum computing and software engineering.

In this role, you will write and maintain our public documentation and examples for our APIs, services, and software libraries, including code samples and interactive notebooks.

Responsibilities: 

  • Document new products, features, and APIs, including developing working software samples and guides
  • Document standards, guidelines, and best practices for engineers
  • Organize documentation and make it easily discoverable
  • Maintain content quality through curation and content performance analysis
  • Push IonQ forward by dreaming up and implementing new ways to deliver, author, analyze, and interact with technical content
  • Draft documentation, incorporate comments and feedback from subject matter experts
  • Review and revise documentation based on feedback from customers and other stakeholders
  • Work closely with subject matter experts, engineers, developers, and scientists
  • Collect user data to determine areas of documentation that need revision and updating

You’d be a good fit with:

  • A BS in software engineering or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in technical writing
  • 2+ years of experience writing software in Python or a similar language
  • Proficient with GitHub, HTML, Markdown and the command line
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to develop productive working relationships with cross-functional teams

You’d be a great fit with:

  • 4+ years of experience
  • Professional software engineering experience in a backend language like Ruby, Go, Python, PHP, Node, or Java
  • Experience creating automated documentation tools
  • Proficient with command line interpreters (e.g., bash, zsh).
  • Familiarity with Visual Studio Code

The approximate base salary range for this position is $74,152 - $96,697. The total compensation package includes base, bonus, and equity.

Compensation will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Beyond base salary, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component and a range of benefit options found on our career site at ionq.co/jobs.  Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided when a candidate receives an offer of employment. IonQ's HQ is located in College Park, Maryland, just outside of Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in Bothell, WA (near Seattle). Depending on the position, you may be required to be near one of our offices in College Park, Seattle, Toronto, Canada, and Basel, Switzerland.
