The Opportunity

The Systems Engineer 1 is an integral member of our technical team, responsible for assisting in the design, implementation, and maintenance of our organization's IT systems and infrastructure. This entry-level position offers an opportunity to learn and contribute to various aspects of systems engineering, working closely with senior engineers to support the stability, security, and efficiency of our technology environment.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware, software, and operating systems.

· Contribute to the setup and deployment of servers, workstations, and networking equipment.

· Collaborate with senior engineers to ensure systems are properly configured for optimal performance and security.

· Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to identify and resolve hardware and software issues.

· Assist in diagnosing system problems, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing solutions.

· Work with team members to address user-reported problems and ensure timely problem resolution.

· Participate in monitoring system performance, identifying potential bottlenecks or areas for improvement.

· Contribute to routine maintenance tasks, including updates, patches, and system backups.

· Assist in maintaining system documentation, including configurations, processes, and procedures.

· Collaborate with security teams to implement and maintain security measures, including access controls and data protection.

· Assist in conducting security audits and vulnerability assessments, implementing necessary safeguards.

· Contribute to compliance efforts and ensure systems adhere to relevant industry standards and regulations.

· Work closely with cross-functional teams to support project initiatives and technical requirements.

· Learn from and collaborate with senior engineers to expand technical knowledge and skill set.

· Share insights, lessons learned, and best practices with team members to enhance overall capabilities.

· Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends to contribute fresh perspectives and innovative solutions.

· Pursue opportunities for training and certification to enhance technical expertise and career growth.

Candidate Expertise Required

Have a proven track record of diagnosing and fixing critical issues in emergency situations

· Strong knowledge of running web applications in production

· Deep understanding of how compute, storage, and networks work together to be a high performance platform

· High level understanding of executing projects with full stack automation; we focus on using less manual intervention and work with internal and open source tools to automate daily activities

· Excellent Linux and command line knowledge

· Be comfortable reading and writing code and track changes using source control management with GIT

· Comfortable with configuration management systems (Ansible Preferred) and systems automation / infrastructure as code

· Be familiar with cloud architecture scalability challenges

· Have solid networking knowledge, TCP/IP stack, web services

· Be passionate about learning and exploring new technologies

· Know when to take ownership and when to ask for help or escalate issues.

· Good documentation hygiene, be able to draw diagrams and templates for the projects you’re working on and articulate implementation details to both technical and non-technical audiences.

· Familiar with DevOps/SRE practices

· Excellent understanding of database technologies (MySQL, Cassandra), storage technologies (block storage, file storage, object storage) and message brokers (ActiveMQ, Kafka)

Compensation

Annual base salary: $65,000-$70,000 plus variable plus variable USD Annual. The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Company's contemplated salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as the candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and geographic location. The salary is one component of Company's total compensation package for employees.
