Technical Support Engineer

About the Role

Sigma is growing rapidly, and our Technical Support Engineering team is expanding globally to support an increasing customer base. We are launching Support in Australia and are looking for a founding team member to help establish and scale our presence in the region.

As a Technical Support Engineer at Sigma, you will join an award-winning team recognized with the 2024 Stevie Gold Award for Customer Service. In this role, you will operate with a high degree of autonomy, helping customers solve complex technical, business, and data challenges using the Sigma platform while partnering closely with US-based Engineering, Product, and Go-to-Market teams.

As a founding Support team member in Australia, you will play a key role in shaping how we serve customers in the region and scaling our global Support presence.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Work directly with Sigma’s customers and pre-sales team to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, confidently owning escalations end-to-end

  • Act as a regional extension of the global Support team, collaborating closely with US-based Engineering and Product partners across time zones

  • Partner cross-functionally with backend, frontend, DevOps, Design, Product, and Go-to-Market teams to deliver a first-class customer experience

  • Develop best practices and tooling to improve issue diagnosis and system performance, contributing to scalable support operations

  • Operate independently in a high-growth environment, helping establish processes and standards as a founding member in the region

  • Participate in quarterly projects and perform periodic on-call duties as part of a roster, with compensation or time-in-lieu provided in accordance with Australian employment standards

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience supporting enterprise data or analytics products

  • Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals, databases, and business intelligence

  • Advanced SQL proficiency (JOINs, partitions, window functions, aggregations, CTEs, subqueries)

  • Experience troubleshooting SQL performance and understanding query plans

  • Proficiency in data modeling concepts

  • Ability to translate data into clear and logical visualizations

  • Proven ability to build trust with customers and resolve issues with confidence and ownership

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable working cross-region with US- and UK-based teams

  • A strong desire to build scalable processes and operate as a self-starter in a growing environment

  • Highly collaborative, accountable, and energized by building something new

Highly Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience supporting a cloud service in production

  • Experience working with Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, or BigQuery

  • Knowledge of GCP and AWS

  • Startup experience
