Technical Superintendent

General Area of Responsibility:

The Technical Superintendent has the overall responsibility for the safe, economic, and efficient operation of assigned vessels. He/She ensures that ships are managed and operated in accordance with organizational policies, operating procedures, and management systems. He/She is responsible for identifying and analyzing risks and ensuring compliance with the organization’s risk management framework.

The Technical Superintendent will be responsible to supervise, control and verify the corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance activities on board Argentinean Fleet according to the planned maintenance system and recommends actions and procedures to improve the best practices on board the vessels to add value to the performance of the organization and personnel. Also, they will oversee the requisitions of spare parts, consumables and service requests generated on board.

Specific Area of Responsibility:

The main tasks will be:

Maintenance and repair:

Ensure cost effective repair of damages and breakdowns and preventive maintenance is carried out prioritizing the critical equipment of the assigned tugs in compliance with the vessels maintenance programs that are in use or which may be introduced in the future.

Oversee compliance and conduct internal audits for SVITZER vessels, ensuring adherence to HMS system and procedures, as well as Safety Management System (SMS-SGS). Prepare and conduct or assit the assigned vessels for the own company surveys and inspections (SOVIQ, MTI, Management Visits, etc.).

Ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements (Flag – PNA – and class) for both existing and new vessels, including preparing and/or coordinating all necessary actions to maintain the validity of all certifications required for navigation

Coordinate and supervise the correct use of Serica planned maintenance system in the assigned vessels.

Control and approve technical requisitions for Svitzer vessels.

Prepare and submit evaluations of technical crew and asses new crew members to ensure quality hires and oversee safe handover and on-boarding process including  when necessary completition of People Performance Management System(Workday)

Perform other technical and ad-hoc tasks as required.

Purchasing and administration:

Participate in vendors and suppliers selection and oversee and control all maintenance and repair work performed by third party vendors.

Participate in procurement process for the technical departments in accordance with the company requirements and instructions in full use of the Sertica purchase system, negociating with local suppliers when necessary and coordinating logistics.

Supervise and maintain the critical inventory of spares to ensure proper control of stock.

Dry docks: Participate in planning and execution of dry docks in close collaboration with the DD regional team Coordinate Technical Assessment Report Assist on the Demand planning: requisitions which include full technical data: quantities, S/N, R/H, specs and drawings, list of spare parts required. Assist or Prepare on Dry dock specifications.

 Safety: Work closely and effectively with Operations Superintendents to ensure optimal operations under standards and a preparation for special operations. Ensure the highest level of HSE and quality standards as per ISM/ISO systems and support regional or local management initiatives, including sanitary and health inspections and certificates. Oversee compliance and conduct internal audits for SVITZER vessels, ensuring adherence to HMS system and procedures, as well as Safety Management System (SMS-SGS). Oversee compliance of HMS system and procedures.

Required/Preferred Education

Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chief Engineer or other related technical related education and background.

Training and competencies

  • More than five (5) years of experience in the marine technical field.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Knowledge of Sertica as plus.
  • Knowledge of local rules(PNA) and international regulations (ISO 9000, OSHA, Marine Safety Standards, Maritime Law, ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, etc).
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor the work performed by marine technical staff on multiple vessels.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills across multiple levels in the organization and with external and internal stakeholders. .
  • Ability to work in a global business environment with a strong sense of cultural diversity.
  • Flexibility to travel for short periods if required.
