The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Technical Specialist to join a newly established Eligibility team within our Workers’ Compensation Nominal Insurer business. This team has been created to support upcoming legislative reforms that have changed how workers’ compensation claims - particularly psychological injury claims - are assessed and determined.

This is a pivotal technical role at QBE, supporting the delivery of fair, consistent and compliant claims outcomes within a complex and evolving legislative environment. The role is focused on providing specialist technical advice, guidance and decision support across eligibility and liability matters. It is well suited to professionals with strong legislative expertise, sound judgement, and confidence operating in structured, decision‑driven environments during periods of change.

It’s an exciting time. We’re building momentum towards our vision to become the most consistent and innovative risk partner.

What if you could have a positive impact – at work and in the world? As part of the QBE team, you’ll get to spend every day working with people who are passionate, talented and kind.

Your new role

  • Provide specialist technical advice and decision support on eligibility and liability matters for high‑volume, high‑turnover claims within the Nominal Insurer scheme.

  • Interpret and apply legislation, guidelines and frameworks to support accurate, timely and compliant decision‑making aligned to legislative reform requirements.

  • Support Case Managers and team leaders with complex, sensitive or precedent‑setting eligibility decisions.

  • Assist in embedding consistent decision‑making practices, technical standards and quality outcomes across the Eligibility team.

  • Maintain accurate, compliant documentation in line with regulatory, contractual and audit obligations.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying emerging risks, trends and opportunities as reforms are implemented.

About you

  • Extensive experience in workers’ compensation claims, with strong exposure to technical, legislative and compliance‑focused decision‑making

  • Strong working knowledge of legislative and statutory frameworks, with confidence interpreting and applying them in complex or changing conditions.

  • Demonstrated experience providing technical advice, coaching or decision support to Case Managers.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex decisions and legislative interpretations.

  • Strong judgement, attention to detail and resilience when managing sensitive or time‑critical matters.
