Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Technical Specialist – Driveline Systems to join the Driveline Technical Leadership team. This role serves as a recognized technical authority responsible for the design, development, integration, and validation of advanced driveline systems, including controls, mechatronics, and software-enabled features.
As a system-level technical leader, you will work cross-functionally to deliver robust, customer-focused driveline solutions across vehicle programs. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong leadership through influence, and the ability to solve highly complex, multi-disciplinary problems.
Technical Leadership & System Integration
Serve as a recognized technical leader and primary resource for driveline systems and integration
Lead system-level design, development, and integration of driveline hardware, software, and controls
Act as the single point of contact for driveline systems within VMEC and vehicle systems integration teams
Provide expert consultation to engineering teams across propulsion, vehicle performance, and controls
FMEA & Standards Ownership
Own the total Driveline System DFMEA and coordinate subsystem DFMEAs
Serve as in-house expert for subsystem DFMEAs and system FMEA activities
Provide technical leadership for VMEC DFMEAs related to driveline controls, software, and electronics
Develop, maintain, and deploy standard work, best practices, and interface control documents (ICDs)
Specifications, Testing & Validation
Lead driveline system and vehicle-level test strategy and procedure development
Manage Driveline GMWs, VCRIs, and system validation requirements
Support vehicle performance buy-offs and execution of driveline system performance in vehicle
Develop and maintain calibration guides, duty cycles, and torsional load agreements
Controls, Mechatronics & SDV
Lead development and integration of driveline controls and mechatronic systems
Support software and controller specification development
Own or co-own ATWs, EPICs, and torsional load control features
Lead driveline contributions to SDV and virtual development initiatives
Strategy, Roadmaps & Capability Building
Own the Driveline Systems and Controls Technology Roadmap
Lead new technology development in driveline mechatronics and controls
Own Driveline ADO and TAP activities supporting VMEC
Lead training, mentoring, and technical capability development within Driveline Systems
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
8+ years of experience in Driveline Engineering or related vehicle systems
Strong background in active controls systems and highly integrated vehicle architectures
Demonstrated expertise in driveline systems, mechatronics, and controls
Proven ability to lead complex technical work through influence
Strong analytical skills applied to complex, multi-disciplinary problems
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience with engineering design tools, simulation, and performance analysis software
Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new systems analysis and modeling tools
Knowledge of torque delivery, distribution, and control strategies
Experience in the design, validation, and manufacturing of driveline systems
Experience with design, development, analysis, or testing of driveline or related chassis subsystems (e.g., suspension, steering, brakes, tires, powertrain mounting)
Strong knowledge of GM engineering processes and internal systems
Working knowledge of FIT
Experience with MATLAB and vehicle data acquisition tools (e.g., Vector tools, Vehicle Spy, ETAS/INCA)
DFSS Black Belt certification or higher
