About this role
 

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Service & Development (TS&D) Scientist located in Freeport, TX.

This role applies in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in rubber materials, formulation and processing to support customer needs by leading the development of new applications and by providing technical knowledge on the use, handling and management of Dow products. In this role, you will require in-depth conceptual and working knowledge of rubber formulation and processing in different applications. You will need to understand your discipline's best practices and how they relate to others. You may need to lead small projects with manageable risks and resource requirements as well as serve as a resource for less experienced colleagues. You should also be able to explain difficult or sensitive information and work to build consensus with others.

It is your responsibility to analyze and resolve complex problems, examine information from multiple sources, and use judgement to evaluate established and new solutions. Your performance impacts a range of customer, operational, project, or service activities within your own team and other related teams and requires that you work within established guidelines and policies.

Responsibilities – Duties, projects, tasks, and activities you would be responsible for in this role

  • Uses broad market, customer, and application knowledge and in-depth understanding of competitive technologies to solve complex technical issues
  • Convinces others about differentiated technical solutions and articulates synergies between technologies to maximize value effectively- understands how business value is created for Dow and the customer
  • Applies and uses project methodologies in a manner that is considered exemplary
  • Participates in the development and implementation of IC strategy for a business or platform, and fully participates in the development of technology maps for projects and leads area of IP development
  • Coaches others in identifying opportunities and how to understand and articulate value of Dow technologies in different applications
  • Delivers presentations or reports that distill complex ideas into clear results and proposals; communicates appropriately to influence internal and external audiences
  • Serves as principal author on papers and presentations and presents at industry conferences
  • Manages the technical project pipeline for a business within a geography, and translates competitive knowledge to useful insights for internal stakeholders, and works closely with marketing to proactively lead effort to identifying new high-value opportunity spaces with internal and external stakeholders
  • Provides effective TS&D to numerous strategic accounts for the business, responds to technical questions of customers and other Dow/market-facing businesses, and manages tech services for Tier II customer accounts
  • Monitors the competition and market trends relative to Dow intellectual capital positions and integrates the information into group activities and projects


Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E5 ranking or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant. Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or science related field required.
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience with rubber formulation and processing required. Application knowledge in Transportation/Infrastructure is preferred.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record of Creativity, Innovation, and Project Management 

  • Experience in working with the North America Magnificent 7 in Tech as well as relevant parties in the value chain

  • Problem Solving Skills and Mechanical Aptitude a plus 

  • Experience in providing technical support to customers 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 

  • Previous experience working on a project team 

  • Cross-functional and/or cross-geography experience 

Note: This position requires approximately 25-30% of travel.
