About the role:

We are looking for a hands-on, technically fluent Technical Project Manager to embed directly into our data organization and keep a complex, high-velocity team running at its best. This is not a traditional PM role. You will sit at the intersection of engineering execution, client delivery, and operational intelligence, working across a team of Data Engineers, Data Architects, Analytics Engineers, BI/Reporting specialists, and Tagging and Tracking engineers.

Our data team is the backbone of data operations for a 650-client agency, building consolidated pipelines, custom integrations, client-specific data solutions, and reporting infrastructure. You will be the connective tissue that holds it all together, grooming boards, tracking deliverables, removing blockers, and surfacing the right information to the right people at the right time.

We are a heavily AI-enabled team. You will be expected to use tools like Claude AI and Claude Code actively, not just as a user, but as someone who pushes the team to work smarter through AI-assisted workflows, reporting, and project intelligence.

A day in the life:

You start the morning by scanning Asana boards across the data engineering, analytics, and tagging teams, catching anything that stalled overnight, updating ticket statuses, and flagging blockers before standup. You run a tight cross-team sync, surface two dependency conflicts between the pipeline and BI workstreams, and get the right engineers in a room to resolve them.

Mid-morning, you shift to client deliverables, reviewing the status of a handful of custom integration builds for agency clients, pushing for updated ETAs from engineers, and drafting a brief AI-assisted status summary for the client success team using Claude.

In the afternoon you groom next sprint's backlog with two team leads, refine ticket definitions, and pull a Claude-generated project health report to share with leadership. You close the day with a quick async update in Asana across three open workstreams, making sure nothing is waiting on you.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Board Management

  • Own and maintain Asana engineering boards across all data sub-teams, grooming backlogs, managing sprint cycles, and ensuring tickets are well-defined, prioritized, and moving
  • Build and enforce intake processes, ticket standards, and definition-of-done criteria across workstreams
  • Facilitate standups, sprint reviews, and cross-team syncs with a focus on decisions and outcomes

Client Deliverable Tracking

  • Maintain a real-time view of client-specific custom deliverables across a 650-client agency, tracking progress, flagging risks, and driving accountability
  • Serve as the operational bridge between client-facing teams and the data engineering org, translating requirements into scoped, ticketed work
  • Ensure high-volume client customization work moves predictably and does not get lost between teams

Cross-Stream Coordination

  • Connect workstreams across data engineering, architecture, analytics engineering, BI, and tagging, surfacing dependencies and sequencing work intelligently
  • Monitor data operations health including pipeline stability, incident resolution, and data completeness across clients
  • Coordinate release readiness, QA handoffs, and go-live sequencing for major deliverables

AI-Enabled Reporting and Communication

  • Use Claude AI, Claude Code, and other AI tooling to produce status updates, project summaries, and operational reports
  • Build lightweight AI-assisted workflows that reduce manual overhead and improve visibility for leadership and stakeholders
  • Evaluate and introduce tools and practices that help the team operate more efficiently and document their own work

Role Requirements:

Must-Haves

  • 5+ years of project or program management experience in data, analytics, or data engineering environments
  • Direct experience owning engineering backlogs and sprint processes in Asana, Jira, Linear, or equivalent tools
  • Technical fluency sufficient to understand data pipeline architecture, dbt models, API integrations, and modern data stack conversations without needing to write code
  • Proven ability to manage multiple parallel workstreams in a high-volume, client-services or agency environment
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to translate technical status into clear stakeholder updates

Strongly Preferred

  • Familiarity with modern data stack tooling including dbt, Fivetran, Airflow, BigQuery, Snowflake, or Looker
  • Hands-on experience with AI productivity tools, particularly Claude, and a track record of integrating them into daily workflows
  • Experience operating in a multi-client or agency environment with real SLA and customization constraints
  • Exposure to tagging, tracking, or data governance workflows such as GTM, CDPs, or event schemas
  • Background in data operations including pipeline monitoring, data quality management, and incident coordination

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Client Deliverable On-Time Rate: Percentage of client-specific deliverables delivered by committed ETA. Target: 90%+. Tracked weekly on a rolling 30-day basis. On-time defined as within originally scoped timeline unless a formal re-scope is documented.
  • Data Milestone Delivery Rate: Percentage of internally scoped milestones (feature builds, pipeline releases, integration deployments) delivered by committed target date. Target: 90%+. Every active project must have defined milestones with owners and target dates in Asana.
  • WIP (work-in-progess) and Throughput Health: Active WIP per engineer or pod maintained within defined limits. Weekly throughput (tickets/points completed per sub-team) stable or improving over a trailing 4-week average. WIP limits set collaboratively with team leads and reviewed monthly.
  • Data Feed Incident Response SLA: Q2: SLA tiers defined, triage process documented, severity tagging implemented in Asana. Q3+: 90%+ of incidents resolved within defined SLA by severity level.

Most Important Things (MITs)

  • Boards are clean, current, and trusted by the engineering teams who live in them
  • Every active client deliverable has a clear owner, status, and next action at all times
  • Cross-team dependencies are identified and resolved before they block delivery
  • Leadership has a reliable, low-effort window into what is shipping, what is at risk, and why
  • AI tooling is actively used to reduce reporting overhead and improve the quality of project communication across the org.
