Technical Officer

Adelaide - 21 Third Avenue Full time

The role

As part of our systems delivery group, the Technical Officer will responsible for in-house production, maintenance and support activities in a workshop environment. Includes testing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading a wide range of electronic, electrical and electro-mechanical equipment including onsite test facilities relating to Saab products.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Working with the Workshop Team Leader to ensure local technical services are delivered effectively and to the required outcome.
  • Ensure all specific procedures are maintained and followed by anyone using the workshop.
  • Supporting the Workshop Team Leader to ensure the work environment is clean and safe for everyone performing work or visiting the area.
  • Provide support to other Technicians (including sub-contractors) that are working in the SA Workshop on Saab products.
  • Conduct the hardware build, maintenance, support and upgrade work carried out in the Saab workshop and test sites.
  • Support the design, prototyping, test and undertake installation of new Saab products and ensure they are correctly built

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office, 9 day fortnight and part time (0.8 FTE minimum) will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Certificate IV in Electronics and Communications or related discipline (Essential) and relevant experience in the following areas:
  • Manufacturing, maintenance, diagnosis, repair.
  • Diploma of Electronics and Communications Engineering (Desirable
  • Proven knowledge of electronic and electro-mechanical components
  • Demonstrable technical workshop skills (manufacture, maintenance, repairs, modifications, installations, set to work etc).
  • Sound knowledge of safety practices related to electronic, electrical and mechanical equipment, especially electrical safety and ESD prevention.
  • Ability to read and understand basic circuit and block diagrams and follow the instructions contained in technical manuals and test procedures.
  • Circuit and wiring fault finding in PC and industrial computing systems


As a defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 level or have the ability to gain one. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
