In NSW, we are investing heavily in growing our Rolling Stock capability – strengthening our position as a trusted partner to government transport agencies and private rail operators seeking expertise in fleet procurement, strategic asset management and technical due diligence.  This role is central to that ambition.

How will your ideas contribute to shaping what’s next?

This is a key leadership role, responsible for establishing and growing a high-performing rolling stock capability within NSW/ACT. You’ll work closely with senior clients to influence early-stage decision making, shape fleet strategies, and provide independent technical guidance across complex rail programs.

You will also play a pivotal role in developing a future team beneath you – mentoring, guiding, and helping to build a sustainable capability that delivers excellence across Aurecon’s national rail portfolio.

Working alongside our network of senior professionals, eminent engineers, designers and advisors, you will help clients ‘bring ideas to life’ across engagements such as:

• Advising government and private operators on fleet procurement, evaluation, and technical due diligence
• Shaping future fleet strategies, operational concepts and maintenance philosophies
• Driving innovation across decarbonisation, digital systems integration and enhanced performance monitoring
• Guiding the introduction, testing, and commissioning of new and modified rolling stock
• Influencing upstream strategic decisions through independent, evidence-based technical advice
• Contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team culture across NSW and the broader ANZ region

In addition to your technical experience, you will bring:

• A leadership mindset – with the ability and appetite to grow, mentor and shape a new capability in building a team.
• Extensive rolling stock expertise across passenger, freight or heavy haul environments
• Deep knowledge of train design, fleet procurement, asset lifecycle management, and/or certification
• Demonstrated capability in providing advisory-level technical leadership on complex rail projects
• Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with senior clients and stakeholders
• Experience guiding projects from opportunity pursuit through to delivery
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence at all levels
• A tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or a related engineering discipline (Chartered status desirable)
