The consultant plays a key role in diagnosing interface issues, managing configuration changes, and ensuring reliable, accurate data exchange in both pre‑production and production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and support technically focused solutions for multiple Electronic Health Record (EHR) software solutions, with a primary emphasis on HL7‑based integrations.
  • Provide ongoing HL7 interface support through ticket‑based workflows, troubleshooting server‑specific issues, message flow errors, and data transmission failures.
  • Design, configure, and maintain interfaces, forms, reports, and related system components across pre‑production and production environments.
  • Support both net‑new HL7 implementations and ongoing interface maintenance, recognizing that day‑to‑day work includes a balance of implementation activities and production support.
  • Diagnose and resolve HL7 transmission issues (e.g., ACK/NAK, routing, validation) to ensure accurate data exchange and eliminate duplicate data entry.
  • Support Unified Data Services (UDS) integrations enabling inpatient rehabilitation clients to submit required government data and receive benchmark reporting.
  • Maintain integrations in alignment with evolving CMS logic and data submission requirements.
  • Assist with system maintenance activities including security updates, server upgrades, large‑scale migrations, and cloud‑based (AWS) migrations.
  • Collaborate with engineering, clients, and third‑party vendors to drive data mapping, improve logging and monitoring, and ensure timely, accurate completion of implementations and support efforts.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems Technology, Data Analytics, or similar.
  • Equivalent of 2 years of work experience in lieu of degree.
  • At least 1 year of healthcare information technology, systems management, implementation, or consulting experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask on projects and work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to problem‑solve design and programming issues.

Preferred

  • Experience with electronic health records.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in HL7 technical support and an HL7 systems implementation role.
  • Experience with Windows Server environments.
  • Familiarity with IIS (Internet Information Services) for basic service health checks.
  • Experience with healthcare EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, or similar).
  • Experience using interface management or monitoring tools.

Expectations

  • Potential travel up to 20% as needed.
  • Position may at times require extended or irregular hours outside of traditional office hours to support clients, projects across multiple time zones, and any required travel.
