Job Description:

The opportunity

At Hitachi Energy, we’re helping utilities modernize and secure the world’s power systems—so communities can depend on cleaner, more resilient electricity every day. As a Hybrid Technical Consultant, you’ll be part of our Network Control delivery team that configures and deploys real‑time SCADA, DMS/ADMS, and EMS solutions for utility and industrial customers across the globe. You’ll translate operational needs into robust configurations, tune mission‑critical applications for performance and reliability, and turn complex grid data into actionable models that operators can trust.

This is a hands‑on role with purpose. One week you may be shaping a distribution network model for outage management and switching. The next, you’re optimizing telemetry and historian integrations, refining test plans, and collaborating with regional implementation teams to standardize delivery. You’ll work with modern toolchains, follow proven implementation standards, and contribute directly to projects that accelerate renewable integration, improve situational awareness, and reduce restoration time after events.

You’ll thrive here if you enjoy solving real operational problems with elegant engineering—designing testable configurations, validating results against live scenarios, and documenting what you build so teams can scale it again and again. You’ll partner closely with customers, software engineers, and domain experts from around the world, gaining exposure to diverse grid topologies, protocols, and operational practices. We offer hybrid flexibility in Houston, a learning‑centric culture, and a global platform where your ideas can shape how grids are planned, monitored, and controlled. If you’re energized by the challenge of turning data, models, and standards into reliable grid automation systems that keep the lights on—this is your opportunity to make measurable impact.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Configure and deploy SCADA/DMS/EMS applications to meet utility objectives.
  • Build and refine electric network and geospatial data models.
  • Translate operational and business needs into clear functional specifications.
  • Plan, execute, and document integration and system tests.
  • Analyze performance and tune parameters for reliability and latency.
  • Diagnose defects, coordinate fixes, and manage change requests.
  • Produce concise user documentation and training materials.
  • Collaborate with global delivery teams and regional stakeholders.
  • Monitor post‑go‑live health and drive continuous improvement.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
  • 5+ years of experience in the IT/IS industry in a technical support or consulting role.
  • Knowledge of the OSI model and utility protocols such as DNP3, IEC, MODBUS, L&G/ANSI, IEC 60870‑5, and TASE.2; familiarity with OSIsoft PI Historian preferred.
  • Proficiency with C, C++, and Fortran; strong grounding in relational databases, data modeling, and Oracle.
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Project, Office, and Visio.
  • Clear written and verbal communication in English; proactive, solution‑oriented mindset; ability to travel internationally as needed
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
