Job Summary: As a Technical Assistant (OA), you will provide a variety of technical and administrative services in support of the accessibility of information and documents used by a National Bank Examiner (NBE) who is visually impaired. This position is located in Community Banks, Columbus Field Office, Dublin, Ohio.

Major Duties:

  • As a Technical Assistant (OA), you will: Travel with and assist the National Bank Examiner (NBE) in navigating various work locations on an as needed basis. Serve as a document reader for the NBE when written information is not in a format that is accessible. As requested by the NBE, remediate various documents by describing what the document says or transferring information into a format accessible by screen reading software used by the NBE. Use assistive technology, such as Job Access with Speech (JAWS) Software, to test remediated documents for accessibility and readability. Guide the NBE through computer issues via screen-sharing or in-person when the NBE encounters inaccessible software, documents, or trainings. Extract procedures from prior bank examinations and format to established standards for the NBE's review. Input information and work papers prepared by the NBE into official online repositories for bank examinations. Review NBE's written work for formatting consistency and visual appeal without changing the meaning or substance of the NBE's writing. Coordinate with Examiners-in-Charge (EICs) for upcoming assignments to ensure timely request and receipt of examination materials from the banks. Assist the NBE in completing functions if an administrative system is not accessible, for example, inputting the NBE's time and attendance information or travel related expenses. Participate in routine meetings with the OCC's Disability Accommodation Coordinator and others to identify potential accessibility issues or improvements.

Qualifications: You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To qualify for the NB-III level, applicants must have specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level, NB-II or GS-4. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or through volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Specialized experience for this position includes: Providing technical and administrative support such as inputting information into online repositories, reviewing documents for formatting, and using software to maintain, compile, and communicate information. AND Typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute. OR You may substitute education for experience as follows: Four years of education above the high school level in any field. OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or through volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
