Job Description Summary:
The Weissman lab is seeking a dedicated Technician who is passionate about translating bench-side discoveries into life-changing therapeutics. Our lab is pioneering a new class of genetic medicines based on epigenetic editing to treat neurodegenerative diseases, including Huntington’s Disease, and other high-need therapeutic areas.
This role offers the unique opportunity to be at the forefront of a cutting-edge technology platform during a critical phase of preclinical expansion, with significant potential for long-term career growth and impact.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on researcher who thrives when the stakes are high and is eager to take ownership of day-to-day ab work while collaborating with senior team members on more complex efforts. You are looking for a role where you can stick around to see a project go from target identification to a therapeutic reality. You are detail-oriented, adaptable to shifting needs, and motivated by the prospect of joining a mission-driven team.
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
Designs and performs bench-level experiments and small independent research projects to support scientific research objectives of a lab or group. Analyzes experimental data, addresses methodological problems in experimental protocols and results, and reports data to supervisor. Uses discretion in prioritizing and organizing workflow and in optimizing methodologies and results.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
- In consultation with the Principal Investigator or other project manager, designs bench level experiments and small independent research projects.
- Independently operates lab equipment and prepares and orders necessary supply stocks.May work with vendors to address equipment, reagent, or supply issues.
- Performs analysis of experimental results by identifying methodological problems and helping to identify and implement modifications in research protocols.
- Documents, compiles, and assists in interpreting experimental data.Reports data to supervisor in oral and written reports.
- May assist Technical Associate or project manager with determining the order of research processes that best support essential project goals.
- In Vivo Translation: Execute mouse-based studies to evaluate delivery and efficacy of epigenetic editors under established protocols, including routine mouse handling, colony management, and IV injections.
- Surgical & Tissue Processing: Conduct meticulous tissue harvesting and processing from various mouse models for downstream molecular and histological analysis.
- Advanced Cell Culture: Support large-scale mammalian tissue culture projects, including the maintenance, expansion, and differentiation of stem cell lines, with the ability to work independently on routine culture tasks.
- Analytical Assays: Conduct molecular biology assays (e.g., ELISA, RT-qPCR, microscopy, DNA methylation sequencing) using established protocols; contribute to assay optimization and troubleshooting as needed.
- Delivery Systems: Assist in the preparation and basic characterization of viral (AAV) and non-viral (LNP) delivery vehicles for in vivo applications under guidance.
- Data Analysis: Maintain detailed experimental records and utilize software (FlowJo, Prism, or Python) to analyze and present data to the team.
- May consult scientific literature as needed.
- Other tasks as required.
