What does an outstanding Production/Application Support Engineer do at Fiserv?

We are looking for a talented Java Production/Application Support Engineer (L3) to join the Internet Payment Gateway (IPG) application team. IPG is a strategic platform used to process card-present and card-not-present transactions globally, handling approximately 250 million transactions per month.

What you will do:

  • Provide day-to-day operational support and maintenance for the application.
  • Investigate and resolve issues escalated by regional L2 support teams and clients.
  • Troubleshoot application alerts and incidents identified through monitoring tools.
  • Analyze application logs, identify risk patterns, and raise concerns proactively.
  • Create and run SQL queries to support reporting and data validation requests.
  • Partner with developers, testers, BAs, and product teams to drive issue resolution.
  • Support incident response activities, including participating in (and as needed coordinating) P1/P2 incident calls.
  • Apply working knowledge of Java and PL/SQL to diagnose and resolve production issues.
  • Use Unix/Linux and scripting (shell, Python, etc.) to automate routine tasks and accelerate troubleshooting.

What you will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 8–10 years of experience in production/application support.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java and Oracle (including PL/SQL).
  • Working knowledge of Unix/Linux.
  • Experience with shell scripting, sed, and awk.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Change, Release).
  • Experience with monitoring/observability tools such as Kibana, Grafana, and Splunk.

What would be nice to have:

  • Payments domain knowledge (cards and/or transaction processing).
  • Experience in banking or financial services environments.
  • Exposure to Agile delivery models.
  • CI/CD experience (Jenkins and/or Azure DevOps pipelines and deployments).
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as Jira and VersionOne.
