Waymo

Team Lead, Global Construction & Facilities Procurement

Remote, USA Full Time

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

Waymo's Procurement and Vendor Enablement Office (PVEO) is the engine behind our rapid physical expansion. We are a diverse, collaborative group with a mission to efficiently procure the critical infrastructure required to scale the Waymo Driver.

In this remote role, the Construction & Facilities Procurement team supports the business by leading strategic sourcing and category management for our global real estate portfolio, including depots, charging infrastructure, and corporate offices. In addition, this role will be Partnering with Global Places & Services (GPS) to drive cost savings, mitigate construction risk, and ensure operational excellence.

You will:

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of 4 Regional Construction & Facilities Category Managers (West, East, EU, Facilities), setting the standard for category excellence and operational rigor.
  • Global Strategy Ownership: Architect and execute multi-year category strategies for Construction (GCs, Architects, Engineering) and Facilities Management across Waymo’s expanding global footprint, harmonizing regional nuances into a cohesive global playbook.
  • Infrastructure & Equipment: Lead the procurement strategy for critical long-lead infrastructure, including EV charging hardware, switchgears, and specialized depot equipment to meet aggressive deployment schedules.
  • Strategic Sourcing: Oversee end-to-end complex RFx processes for high-value capital projects ($50M+ spend), including "make vs. buy" analysis, supplier selection, and consolidation efforts to maximize buying power.
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Act as the primary procurement business partner to the Global Places & Services (GPS) leadership team, embedding procurement early in the site selection and build-out lifecycle to influence scope and cost.
  • Contracting & Risk: Negotiate and draft robust Master Construction Agreements (MCAs), SOWs, and equipment purchase agreements that minimize risk (safety, financial, timeline) and enforce supplier accountability.

You have:

  • 10+ years of strategic procurement experience, with at least 7+ years dedicated to Construction, Facilities, or Capital Expenditure (CapEx) categories.
  • People Management: Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, or managing a team of procurement professionals, with a track record of elevating team performance.
  • Deep expertise in construction contracting models (Design-Build, GMP, Stipulated Sum) and experience negotiating with General Contractors and A&E firms.
  • Demonstrated experience managing procurement for critical infrastructure equipment (Electrical, HVAC, EV Charging) with complex supply chains and long lead times.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders (Directors/VPs) in Engineering and Real Estate without direct authority.
  • High negotiation acumen with a track record of delivering significant hard dollar savings and cost avoidance in a high-inflation sector.

We prefer:

  • Experience scaling physical operations internationally
  • Background in hyper-growth Tech, EV (Electric Vehicle), or specialized logistics/retail industries with heavy physical footprints.
  • Experience procuring for "mission-critical" facilities (Data Centers, Manufacturing Plants, or R&D labs).
