Team Lead Engineering AI Use Case 1
As a Team Lead Engineering AI Use Case 1 (Engineering Manager), you will focus on the capability development of your team members, aligning their growth with our function’s vision. You will empower your team to self-define their career journeys while you actively remove roadblocks and set a clear focus for performance management. Your goal is to foster a team with the right skills, healthy dynamics, and a sustainable pace of innovation.
In this role, you will co-lead AI software and service delivery, bridging the gap between ambitious business goals and the technical reality of building scalable, ethical, and high-impact AI solutions. You will lead a multidisciplinary team—including AI engineers, data scientists, and designers—exhibiting a "player-coach" mentality to refine the vision, strategy, and roadmap for AI-powered services.
Description of the area
RDT Applied AI Use Case Enablement Team will focus on architecting, building and operating high-value AI solutions and services, engagements ranging from high-touch (end-to-end development) to light-touch (use case consulting and expert embedding into use cases owned and developed by other parts of the organization). This Team will not only build solutions, but also support the "buy and integrate" projects. The Team will help gather technical feedback from across the AI ecosystem at Roche, to support the ongoing development of RDT AI Platforms and Tools. The RDT Applied AI Use Case Enablement Team will collaborate widely: with the Business, other RDT functions, and AI services vendors. The Team, and in particular its Engineering Managers, Tech Leads and Architects will also support refining the AI strategy at Roche.
The Opportunity:
Drive Capability Development: You will mentor individual contributors to align their technical skills with the function’s vision and immediate project goals.
Lead AI Delivery: Partner with Business Product Owners to co-create technical roadmaps and ensure the end-to-end delivery of high-quality AI features.
Cultivate Team Health: You will maintain a sustainable work pace and foster a culture of psychological safety, open communication, and active mentoring.
Remove Impediments: Serve as the primary escalation point to resolve technical and organizational roadblocks, protecting your team’s focus and flow.
Stakeholder Management: Align expectations and provide transparent updates on progress, risks, and delivery performance to diverse stakeholders.
Optimize Performance: Use data-driven insights to define success metrics, identify workforce trends, and implement process improvements.
Technical Stewardship: Guide technical decision-making, perform code reviews, and conduct cost/benefit analyses for resolving technical debt.
Resource & Financial Oversight: Manage the team's budget, including headcount and vendor contracts, while making data-driven resource allocation decisions.
Who you are:
Experienced Leader: You possess 3+ years of experience in product/service and people leadership, with a proven track record of building high-performing teams.
Industry Expert: You bring 2+ years of experience within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or regulated healthcare technology industry.
Technically Proficient: You hold a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Technology, or a related field (Education is critical to this role).
AI Specialist: You have a deep understanding of AI software development, service delivery methodologies, and modern architecture (solution and process).
Strategic Thinker: You exhibit an enterprise mindset, breaking down silos and navigating ambiguity to manage risks progressively.
Effective Communicator: You excel in communicating in English at a C1+ level, ensuring clarity and transparency across organizational boundaries.
Agile Mindset: You demonstrate VACC leadership (Servant/Creative), empowering teams to act autonomously while holding them accountable to a high standard of excellence.
