We are seeking an experienced Team Lead, Analytics to lead our data analytics function in Calgary. Reporting to the Manager, Measurement, Analytics & Technology, you will manage a data team who deliver actionable insights and data solutions across Strathcona's business units.
As a hands-on leader with strong analytical skills and operational experience, you will ensure your team delivers prompt, accurate, and reliable dashboards, visualizations, and analytical tools that optimize asset performance and enable informed decision-making. You will also support emerging operational AI initiatives, helping to integrate advanced analytics capabilities into business operations.
Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management
Lead, mentor, and develop a data team supporting various business units and corporate groups
Recruit, onboard, and retain talent aligned with Strathcona's high-performance culture
Set clear performance objectives, provide coaching and feedback, and conduct performance reviews
Allocate resources and prioritize work effectively across competing business needs
Foster a collaborative team environment that encourages continuous improvement and professional growth
Analytics Delivery & Technical Oversight
Oversee the design, creation, and publication of engineering visualization displays (dashboards) and reports to monitor and improve asset performance and deliver actionable insights
Guide the team in selecting appropriate analytical techniques, statistical methods, and visualization approaches
Maintain hands-on technical involvement in high-priority or complex analytics initiatives
Operational Support & Business Partnership
Leverage operational experience to translate operational challenges into analytical solutions
Collaborate with operational and corporate teams to identify, track, and visualize key performance metrics
Present insights, recommendations, and analytics capabilities to technical teams and leadership
Identify and define new data process opportunities that improve operational efficiency and decision-making
AI & Advanced Analytics Support
Support operational AI initiatives by helping integrate AI capabilities into business operations and workflows
Collaborate with AI/ML teams to understand requirements and facilitate adoption of AI solutions
Help identify use cases where AI and advanced analytics can drive operational value
Bridge the gap between traditional analytics and emerging AI capabilities
Data Quality & Governance
Ensure team adherence to data governance processes, standards, and best practices
Oversee data quality and completeness for business analytics, serving as liaison for data quality issues
Own the business data and be the key liaison for issues related to data quality and completeness
Guide the team in acquiring data from primary or secondary data sources and validating data integrity
Requirements:
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in engineering, Geoscience, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field is an asset
8-10+ years of progressive experience in data analytics within the oil and gas industry
2-3+ years of people leadership experience, including managing and developing analytical teams
Competencies
Strong experience with data visualization and BI tools such as Tableau, Spotfire, and Power BI
Advanced proficiency in SQL & Python as asset
Experience with statistical analysis techniques and identifying actionable insights from complex data sets
Exposure to modern cloud data architecture such as AWS, Azure
Experience with cloud data platforms like Databricks or Snowflake
Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and applications in operational settings
Strong leadership and people management skills with ability to inspire and develop talent
Business acumen and understanding of how analytics drives operational decisions
