Position Summary:

  • The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery and smooth running of the Health Informatics course by engaging in a range of responsibilities assigned by the course instructors.

  • The position involves supporting the teaching team, facilitating student learning, and ensuring that high academic standards are maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the organization and management of course materials and resources on McGill’s myCourses platform, including uploading lecture notes, tutorials, and supplementary materials related to health informatics.

  • Grade homework assignments, quizzes, and exams in accordance with established rubrics and departmental guidelines, providing timely and constructive feedback to students.

  • Hold regular office hours to support students’ understanding of core health informatics concepts, including electronic health records (EHR), health data standards, privacy and security, clinical decision support systems, and health information exchange.

  • Facilitate review sessions and help clarify challenging topics such as health data analytics, interoperability, and healthcare IT systems during tutorials or lectures.

  • Assist with preparation and delivery of tutorials or labs, particularly those involving health informatics software tools or case study analyses.

  • Collaborate with course instructors to maintain academic integrity and assist with course improvement initiatives.

  • Respond to student inquiries promptly and effectively, fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.


Qualifications:

  • Only Current Masters or Doctoral student registered at McGill are eligible to apply as Teaching Assistant, PhD preferred.  

  • Preference will be given with two (2) years or more of Health Informatics-related experience or one (1) year or more of university-level teaching experience.

  • Successful completion of EPIB 601, EPIB 602 (or PPHS 602), and EPIB 603 at McGill University or equivalent courses at another accredited institution.

  • Proficiency with educational technology platforms such as myCourses, online grading tools, and basic programming or data analysis software is desirable.

  • Background in the subject matter of the course. Strong foundational knowledge of health informatics principles, healthcare information systems, and data privacy standards.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to explain technical concepts to diverse learners.

  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.

Skills Required:

  • Administrative experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge or additional professional credentials in one or more areas of health information subjects included in the program curriculum.

  • Demonstrated excellence in online teaching.

  • Demonstrated skills in academic program monitoring and evaluation.

  • Demonstrated experience teaching and working with a diverse population.
