Tax Specialist

Remotely based Full Time

The Tax Specialist is responsible for the timely and accurate preparation, filing, and payment of payroll and sales-related taxes across multiple jurisdictions on behalf of customers. This role ensures compliance through detailed documentation, consistent communication with tax agencies, and collaboration with internal teams. The Tax Specialist also plays a key role in resolving tax-related issues, amending prior filings, and supporting a seamless customer experience through high-quality tax service delivery.

Your impact:

  • Prepare and file payroll and sales tax returns in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Accurately remit tax payments on behalf of customers within filing deadlines
  • Respond to customer inquiries via the ticketing system, email, or phone with professionalism and clarity
  • Communicate with tax authorities to resolve account issues, pursue penalty abatements, and clarity discrepancies in filings or payments
  • Amend previously filed returns as needed, ensuring appropriate documentation and compliance
  • Maintain thorough and up-to-date documentation of all filings, communications, decisions, and resolution steps to ensure transparency and continuity across internal teams
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Customer Success, Account Management, Technical Support, and Onboarding teams to deliver aligned customer communication and resolution
  • Monitor assigned accounts to proactively identify and escalate potential tax compliance risks or filing delays
  • Support process improvement by contributing feedback on reoccurring issues, inefficiencies, or customer education gaps 

About you:

  • 2+ years of experience in payroll or sales tax filing, compliance, or related finance/tax operations roles
  • Prior experience working with tax authorities (e.g., state revenue departments, IRS) is preferred
  • Familiarity with business systems and processes related to payroll, accounts payable, inventory management, and reporting
  • Strong knowledge of payroll and/or sales tax filing processes
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines across multiple accounts or jurisdictions
  • Professional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation
  • Confidence in handling phone and email communications with customers and government agencies
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and cross-functionally
  • Proficiency in CRM, ticketing, or tax compliance platforms
