Overview

A dedicated team player, the person would be responsible for the administration of tax to a selected group of State Street client in North America.  Focusing on tax accounting, reporting, compliance, tax research and writing, the candidate would within the team build positive client relations and identify and help in resolving a variety of tax issues.

Responsibility

  • Review GST, HST and income tax returns and related working papers
  • annual / ad-hoc GST / HST blended rate calculation for mutual funds / Unit Trust funds, distributing rates to various parties timely
  • Generate supporting documents of GST / HST filing elections for CRA annual assessment
  •  communicating with CRA and provincial tax authorities on queries and other provincial RST filing issues
  • Handle and maintain documentation for various tax processes, standardizing process
  • Review year end customized client tax reporting
  • Liaise with clients on various reporting deadlines
  • Review CRA Notice of Assessments and determine to file or call CRA for HST tax return assessment discrepancy
  • Participate in Ad hoc projects on tax laws and technology build
  • Participate and train staff on tax department’s risk management
  • Keep abreast of relevant federal / provincial tax budgets and updated in related tax area.
  • Perform research on various tax topics, strengthening understanding and preventing future tax issues

Requirements

  • A professional accounting designation (CPA or Masters in Taxation with HST in-depth)
  • A strong accounting and tax background with progressive 5 year of experience in the public practice or financial service industry with HST and GST compliance
  • Additional experience related to exposure to complex tax issues surrounding the mutual fund industry
  • Advanced computer skills (including Word, Excel and Taxprep and Formulatrix)
  • Ability to research online with CCH and other research tools
  • Excellent communication skills that allow effective communication within the team and with the client
  • Additional experience related to complex tax issues surrounding the mutual fund industry
  • Sound knowledge of SLFI Tax Returns, PAP % and Blended rates calculation
