In the Americas, our sole focus is on the investments business. We have offices in Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Miami, and Sao Paolo. Our breadth of experience gives us close proximity to the companies we invest in and the markets we operate in.


 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as primary tax resource for the Americas region.  The scope includes both corporate and investment product entities.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations with a key focus on corporate tax, indirect tax, with-holding tax & transfer pricing for Americas entities
  • Lead the provision and oversight of tax calculation & filing processes
  • Manage tax provision & work with Finance team in support of quarterly G/L close and financial statement reporting, including FIN 48 analysis, deferred tax asset/liability valuation, and footnote disclosures.  This support will be at both the global and regional level.
  • Ensure the provision of effective tax support on business and product growth and change initiatives, coordinating external advisors as necessary.
  • Keep up to date with relevant taxation changes for the business and product range and ensure that business areas are advised of any implications that may arise.
  • Work with key stakeholders to ensure that both ongoing needs and ad hoc requests are met in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Manage relationship with external tax advisors and outsource providers; manage timeline, scope & fees related to the work & overall engagement
  • Responsible for interactions with tax authorities, including any tax audits or inquiries that may arise.
  • Maintain and develop an effective tax risk and controls framework for the business.
  • Understand best practice and represent Aberdeen as appropriate with external stakeholders.
  • Active participant within the Americas finance team, including staying abreast of business/financial activity and considering tax implications.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in accounting, tax, business or equivalent
  • Good mixed knowledge & experience in Americas countries
  • Strong corporate tax background with exposure to international tax issues preferred
  • Experience in financial services or large corporate groups an advantage
  • Experience with partnership accounting or Registered Investment Companies (40 Act) is also a plus
  • Working experience with tax agents or authorities is an added plus.

    • Ability to solve problems creatively and pragmatically.
    • Results orientated and willing to take on responsibility.
    • Team player with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels.
    • Proficient in excel; technologically capable and independent
