Tax, Retirement & Estate Planning Services Consultant

Manulife Financial currently has an opening in the Head Office Tax, Retirement & Estate Planning Services team for a Tax, Retirement & Estate Planning Consultant. If you have a professional accounting or legal designation with in depth tax expertise and are looking for an exciting, non-traditional role, this position could be very rewarding.

The Tax, Retirement & Estate Planning Consultant provides technical reference material and education as well as case-specific consulting support to advisors, Manulife field management (e.g. wholesalers) and Regional Tax, Retirement and Estate Planning group members (RTREPS) with respect to tax, product, concept, legal and accounting issues in complex estate, tax and business planning situations. 

Responsibilities:

  • Providing accurate and timely technical information to investment and wealth management advisors, wholesalers and RTREPS with respect to tax, estate planning and regulatory matters

  • Increase the knowledge, understanding and comfort of top tier advisors, wholesalers and other target audiences with investment products by identifying and developing sales concepts/strategies (including illustrations and presentations to support these concepts/strategies), communicating on topical matters or new legislation and by developing and delivering educational and sales seminars

  • Providing tax expertise and analysis on new product development initiatives as well as initiatives impacting existing clients to ensure that the most effective tax treatment has been considered and that no negative surprises result. Support other internal partners (e.g. marketing) with our tax and legal expertise.

  • Professionally represent Manulife on influential industry or internal committees with respect to legislative and company initiatives respectively, relating to investment products and ensure that the interests of Manulife or TREPS are brought forward in a timely and influential manner.


Special Conditions: You will be required to remain current on relevant tax, legal and regulatory matters.

Required Qualifications:

  • Legal or accounting designation plus the CICA in depth tax course or a strong background in tax

  • Expertise in the taxation of Investment Products and Estate planning and financial planning (CFP) skills are strong assets

  • Computer software knowledge (spreadsheets and word processing)

  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills

  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills and ability to meet tight deadlines

  • Ability to think creatively to identify sales and product opportunities arising out of legislation

  • Ability to complete in-depth research and analysis on the feasibility of sales concepts, to develop easy to read technical articles describing the concepts as well as illustrations and power point presentations to support a sales concept package

  • Ability to understand and apply complex legislation to sales situations and to provide meaningful direction and product feature application to the various distribution channels in a way that educates them and serves our investors best

  • Strong interpersonal skills; must have the ability to interpret and communicate technical information to a non-technical audience

  • Accuracy and attention to detail

  • Team player


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in the Financial Services Industry

  • Project management skills

  • Familiarity in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Salary range is expected to be between

$118,300.00 CAD - $168,300.00 CAD

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
